Fire breaks out on EPCOT's World Showcase Lagoon following Harmonious fireworks show at Walt Disney World

Immediately following last night's performance of Harmonious at Walt Disney World, a fire broke out on one of the floating firework launch platforms.

Note that the fire was contained to one of the flat top launch platforms seen in the foreground of the picture below, and was not on one of the large video display barges.

Firework-related fires are not entirely uncommon at Walt Disney World, but this particular incident appears more extensive than usual and may have caused significant damage to the launch hardware and electronics on board the platform.

Disney said in a short statement, "A fireworks launch platform had a contained fire after Friday's show and was extinguished."

The show is likely to be able to continue, but if the damage to the launch platform is extensive, some fireworks may be missing until it can be repaired.

Contract David Copperfield to design a fitting finale for the barges. A cataclysmic burst of pyro and smoke that (when it clears) leaves only a bubbling froth in the center of the lagoon. The next morning a calm empty lagoon, Ta Da.

I meant 3 shows: Enchantment, Harmonious and F! If Harmonious goes down, we’d be back down to 2 shows even with the addition of Fantasmic. Did that show go on last night?

Too old. It had its day…but the day is over. Disney continues to sell every square inch of their property for maximum yield… …but doesn’t give reasons for people to buy it that actually have seen illuminations in the past. When you’re built on nostalgia, you best keep doing things to create it.

Inferno barge will not die.

Good.

To think every night they made a 30 foot blazing inferno every night on purpose and this show has 2 accidental fires twice in one year. Not to mention before that they wired the Maxi Barges up with display cakes which are nothing but gunpowder and tons of cardboard and still nothing like this.

BRING BACK ILLUMINATIONS!

KramericaOct 23, 2022

Good excuse to permanently destroy the barges. Immediately.

I think the Stargate got mad it was being replaced. You don’t want to mess with those sorts of things.

SirwalterraleighOct 22, 2022

…have you not seen fantasmic? I gotta ask…

wdwmagicOct 22, 2022

I think that would be a challenge as there would likely need to be changes made to the programming.

If it came to it, they could run with just half the pyro. Remember in they days off the wild fires when illum ran with zero pyro.

They can probably set up something temporary to keep the shell in full
