New permit filed for Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser hotel

Jul 14, 2020 in "Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser"

Construction at Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser came to a complete halt during the COVID-19 shutdown that took effect in mid-March 2020 but there are signs that the project will live on.

A new permit was filed today for "Project H -Installation of Show Set Elements" with an expiration of 1/29/2022. (Thanks to @danlb_2000 for spotting the permit).

Of course, this does not indicate imminent start of work, and it isn't clear on the timeline of when the permit was applied for.

The contractor is Themeworks, who has done previous work for Disney including Toy Story Mania.

Disney had previously announced Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will open in 2021 following reservations beginning in 2020 - but that timeline has now very likely shifted as a result of COVID-19.

Netflix has a behind the scenes documentary on testing the Starcruiser shuttle.

Closeup picture of the area where you will board the shuttle to GE. Interesting to note the pieces of metal labeled Jet Way. Looks like they are using the same technique as in the Smugglers Run to give you the feel of walking on a boarding ramp.

Gondolas. Space gondolas.

There is a canal right there, what more do you want?

which there should be because this is a hotel, not a actual spaceship. I am not paying that much for a hotel to role play.

Actually, eventually, a modified one night experience is reasonable. It can be linked to on property resort packages.

While I do think the whole 3 day 2 night experience will go out the window at some point and it'll turn into something shorter (and cheaper), 8 months seems way too short. There aren't very many rooms. I think there are enough hardcore Star Wars fans and people just interested in a new concept in general to keep the place full or at least mostly full for years.
