Nothing beats being able to pull you car right up to within a few feet of your hotel room door.

And I’ve spent the same rates that pop charges for extremely basic unthemed motels on harbor Blvd. Not exactly sure what your point is? Comparing pop century to any basic motel is wild to me.

There are particularly nice Motel 6s and Super 8s, they're just uncommon. Certainly some of the hotels in their advertising material are nicer than average (but mostly actually exist). Them and Best Western can often get quite nice in areas with more competition, particularly in the midwest and flyover states in general. More appropriately, I've stayed in hotels often considered slightly higher quality than that (Holiday Inn for example, or any of the half-dozen lower level flags from Marriott), very basic accommodations relatively speaking, that have on-site shopping and dining, gates, and similar recreation opportunities (minus the size of course). All of them half (or third when Pop gets up into the $300/night range), the price.

Unless you stayed at a particularly nice motel 6 (which I’m sure they do exist) I can’t understand how they are the least bit comparable by any measurable. And back to the discussion of what is expected at a “resort” like the pop century and a basic roadside motel. Gated entry. Large, landscaped property with water features. On site Dining options. On site shopping. Jogging path. Large themed swimming pools.

The design elements of both may not exactly replicate, but sure do rhyme. In my professional opinion.

I agree!!!!! For my runDisney in Cali trip, I chose to stay at the Motel6 because so many compare our Values to that brand. So I figured the rooms would be nice and grounds pleasant. The Motel6 was terrible.

Having had the “privilege” of staying at both - I can assure you that Pop Century is not even close to a motel 6.

Pop Century is a Motel 6 with a bit bigger shop, restaurant, and pools than expected, plus some big statues dotted about for "theming". And half a point for Skyliner service because of it being shared with AoA. I have seen guests pay over $300 a night for Pop, and $250+ isn't rare in my experience. You can legitimately stay at the brand new Conrad, Shingle Creek, or literally dozens of other 4 star or 5 star hotels. Maybe a luxury hotel if you get lucky and have status which gives you discount (Marriott's hotels are particularly good for this). No bloody way I'd stay at Pop at $200+ a night even when there are better hotels both on and off property for that price point. $250-$300+? I'd be running away. Fast.

Yes this is what I’m saying. There is no theming or art design difference anymore. They look exactly the same. And honestly somewhat bland and depressing. I hope they add more life to them next refurb.

I don't know if they upgraded Aventura since it opened, but it was an awful expedient for me. Ugly design. Ultra bright halogen lights. The light over the sink was just an overhead spotlight... Think about applying cosmetics under that. All the lights controlled by that iPad.. Except one. The pad was heavy and kept "going to sleep" in a few seconds, winch made TV channel surfing or muting a chore.

TrainsOfDisney20 days ago

At one time the rooms were very different design wise. I’d say the all stars leaned too cheap originally. At one time the different pop century buildings had different retro art on the walls too - I think they are all identical now

MisterPenguin20 days ago

What do you mean "now"? Pop was always just another *value * hotel like the All Stars. Until it got Skyline service and demanded an addition cost bump for that convenience.

KDM3109120 days ago

Similar I get but they could have a little more theming or design to differentiate them.

KDM3109120 days ago

It just should be offered. I saw a video about a hotel near Universal which was called I think Aventura. For a price point equal or less than something like Pop Century it has room controls on an iPad, and a robot that brings you food and supplies. Disney could step it up for sure.
