Epcot's Fountain of Nations to close as part of the park's redevelopment

Disney has today announced via its official Twitter feed that the Fountain of Nations will close on September 8 2019.

The majority of offerings around the area have already confirmed to be closing in phases throughout the final quarter of 2019. You can read a summary of the Epcot Future World closings here.

No further details have been given, but speculation is that the fountain will be removed to be replaced by all new construction. Plans are expected to be revealed at the D23 Expo taking place in August.

The Fountain of Nations dates back to the opening day of Epcot where is was dedicated by Walt's widow, Lillian Disney.  People from 23 countries brought water from their homelands, which was then poured into the fountain - representing the world community brought together at Epcot.

Since then the fountain has been a staple of the Epcot arrival experience, with synchronized music tracks playing every 15 minutes.

Hi, @eddie104, posting laugh reactions on non-humourous posts is against the forum rules. This isn't Facebook. It's also rude, but you knew that.

Neither was the beloved EPCOT Center of 1982.

To be fair, the current version of Epcot isn't the Epcot Walt had in mind.

He wanted Orlando to be a planned community.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing this coming is doing makes any sense anymore other than erasing everything Walt Disney wanted his parks and company stood for. He wanted his parks to be a place where EVERYONE could come and enjoy the magic of being a kid again. Not a place where only the rich and elite can go. He wanted it to be a place where all were welcome. Not a place where only the groups the corporate big wigs liked could go. They have destroyed the dream. The magic. It's like Finn and the Kingdom Keepers were finally beaten by Malificent and the rest of the Disney villains. Yet they don't understand. When you have no more heroes, those very villains will eventually turn on each other as well. It's heartbreaking to see the magical place I once went to every year, sometimes twice, has become such a den run by such villainous filth and greed. Shame on Iger and all in charge at Disney for forgetting who helped build that company.

We all miss Fountain of Nations dearly.

Sadly I just learned about the lose of the Fountain of Nations. I honestly have been quite out of touch with the parks for many years because it saddens me to see the direction the company has gone and just how out of touch they have become with guests focusing not on the nostalgia and magic that was Walts vision but thinking only of greed. This Isa horrible lose as I can remember one of my favorites things to do at Epcot was to arrive early in the morning, grab a pastry and coffee and just sit and relax for a while at the fountain enjoying the visual and audio wonder. The kingdom has become something very ugly that I no longer recognize as the magical place that I once lived to visit multiple times a year. Now if you want to visit, you need to mortgage your house. Shameful

So this moved to a new location, but how long before this new location is demolished?

MainahmanSep 11, 2019

Was there yesterday and walls were already up. Epcot was where we spent the morning yesterday to say goodbye to a few things, and noticed walls already up....

MisterPenguinSep 11, 2019

Yep.
