The Disney operated BoardWalk Ice Cream will open today in place of the former Ample Hills Creamery on the BoardWalk.

Expect minimal changes on the interior from the Ample Hills era, and a new menu that is similar to Beaches and Cream on the other side of the lake. This unfortunately means no specialty ice cream like we saw at Ample Hills, and the menu will likely be based on Edy's Ice Cream.

Operating hours are 3pm to 10pm weekdays, and 12pm to 10pm Saturday and Sunday. BoardWalk Ice Cream is closed all day on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Oh I know -- I was making a snarky comment that Disney may just leave it up permanently and never bother replacing it.

That's not a permanent sign...it's a banner from the looks of the wrinkles around the upper left corner. They may just be biding their time on the actual sign knowing they can get some time out of the banner. How long they'll get though, is dependent on Mother Nature. (One big hurricane could do it in pretty easily.)

…because wdw customers are known to be sticklers on value 😶

Seems like a no brainer but I guess we’ll see. I had Salt & Straw for the first time on my Disneyland trip this summer, it was super delicious, but pretty pricy.

DisneyNorthFanDec 09, 2021

I agree. I still wonder if this will become the "second" location of Salt & Straw, with a refresh here once they open their Disney Springs location?

UNCgolfDec 09, 2021

That might be the permanent sign.

MagicHappens1971Dec 09, 2021

Hate to bump this to read but they still haven’t put up a more permanent sign, this still looks so tacky.

ToTBellHopJun 21, 2021

Just the one AFAIK.

Dr.GrantSeekerJun 21, 2021

Do you know if there will only be the one location at Springs or will they also take over the former Ample Hills at BW too?

ToTBellHopJun 21, 2021

Was wondering when they’d announce.

TrainsOfDisneyJun 21, 2021

Yess!!!! Best news yet!!!! Pretty much the same price as France. Salt & Straw = single scoop $6 double scoop = $8 L’Artisan des Glaces = Single = $5.75 Double scoop = $7.95 While it’s true that Salt & Straw have some exotic flavors, they go down in extremes to very vanilla flavors like... vanilla! (Speaking of puns... bring back citizens of Hollywood - I want puns AND ice cream!)

Ooh!!!! I’ve been to the Salt and Straw at Downtown Disney at DL. Pricey and they have some weird flavor combos but their ice cream IS good (I had salted caramel and it was tasty). Based on their replies to some of the IG comments it looks like they’re coming to Disney Springs!

Looks like Salt and Straw may actually be coming to WDW after all. Maybe they’ll be located in the space in DS that was originally going to be for Ample Hills?

Gelato and ice cream, although similar, are not exactly the same, that's why I didn't compare Ghirardelli's ice cream with Vivoli's gelato. To me, gelato in Italy isn't better, it's simply the best. I should know. ;) Agree with 'nothing wrong with feeling differently'. :)
