Luminous barges in World Showcase Lagoon - October 3 2023

More hardware for the upcoming Luminous nighttime spectacular took to World Showcase lagoon last night for systems tests as preparations for the December 5 debut continue.

Two of the barges were out in the lagoon, complete with six mini firework barges transported inside the main barges. Note that unlike Harmonious, Luminous hardware will be moved out of the lagoon during the daytime.

Luminous features a large number of barges, with six main central platforms, each containing multiple smaller barges that will deploy out in a spoke design.

Don't expect to see any full-scale rehearsals for the show just yet. Crews need to work through the new hardware setup and conduct tests on individual systems and pyro products.

"Luminous The Symphony of Us" will officially debut to guests on December 5 at EPCOT in Walt Disney World. The new show is the long-term replacement for Harmonious and the interim EPCOT Forever show.

Walt Disney World President Jeff Vahle recently said that Luminous will be a "Brand new show filled with fireworks, fountains, lasers, lighting effects. Fabulous Disney music. Luminous is going to touch your heart. And it's going to continue our long tradition of amazing nighttime entertainment EPCOT. I cannot wait for you to see it."

Maybe reservations at restaurants are down in Epcot because people choose to eat/graze at the festival booths, which are there a lot. I know we do that.

Curious about this to. Luminous isn’t a bad show but I doubt it’s up to HEA popularity and I assume that’s something they’ve been wanting for Epcot but struggle to achieve.

Fair. It's just funny to me how a 4 year gone show has been haunting them ever since getting rid of it. I still enjoy Luminous for what it is, much more then Harmonious.

The show is great, and from my multiple viewings of it, the crowd is reacting far more positively than Harmonious. As for restaurant reservations, I think it's a bit unfair to tie the success of Luminous w/ whether or not Epcot dining reservations are up. Far too many variables to consider (people arriving at Epcot far earlier in the day than before, cost of visiting, economic/budgetary reasons, etc.)

So do we know how it's doing overall though? Like restaurant reservations?

I watch a lot of videos of this show, even very recent ones (I like fireworks, what can I say) and I hear a lot of cheering beginning, during and at the end of this show. A lot more than I ever heard in Harmonious videos. I can actually hear ooohs and aaahs. 😂

RoE has been the benchmark that they are striving to meet or exceed. Harmonious is to be forgotten.

I’m not sure I understand the issue. Wouldn’t they want to see what people think about it compared to a popular past show? Isn’t that the point of the survey?

I thought the same but

I don't think they helped themselves any by calling it Luminious,,they should have gone a different direction. Its way too much like its predecessor and basically sounds/looks the same in terms of titles.

No insider knowledge, but in my way of thinking, I think they know that no one was really going to compare Luminous to Harmonious, it was always going to be looked at (in the long run) in comparison to ROE. It seemed to me that they were less trying to go above the bar of Harmonious, but instead get closer to that of Illuminations. I also feel like Disney would love to make sure everyone forgets about Harmonious as fast as possible.

I am not convinced that the show isn’t popular. I keep hearing rave reviews here. It’s gotta play out longer.

Also, how are the Restaurants doing? Honeymoon's over for Luminous??? If true, what now Epcot?

@wdwmagic How's the reception going with this show because the fact they're calling out RoE and not Harmonious doesn't seem good?
