Disney has today released a great time-lapse video giving a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to put together the 14ft tall life-sized Gingerbread House at the Grand Floridian Resort.

1,000 pounds of honey, 700 pounds of chocolate, 600 pounds of confectioner’s sugar all go into making the 10,000 gingerbread pieces that form the display, which takes an entire week to assemble.

Is it really a brick house? It has a concrete foundation, 2 x 6 wood framing, sheathing, insulation, and then a brick (or stucco, or stone, or siding) veneer. If one wants to be pedantic, it is a gingerbread clad house; and I can’t wait to see it just after Christmas this year for the first time ever.

That was fun! The video highlights all the team's efforts to make this beautiful gingerbread house. Love the tradition -- 20 years now!

If you read about it from the Disney Blog, its left for the bees afterward.

How do they nail the gingerbread to the wood without the hammers crushing and crumbling the gingerbread?

Is it really a Ginger Bread house? It has a wood foundation, it is mostly made of wood. It is a wooden box tiled with Ginger Bread.

:jawdrop: That is so cool! Thanks for sharing that! And I now know that they have a Disney Bee Colony over at the tree farm!

I'm feeling a bit verklempt. Talk amongst yourselves. I'll give you a topic. If I can't eat it or move in, it's neither gingerbread, nor a house. Discuss!

I love it, but I always wonder what they do with all of the gingerbread and other edible pieces once the season is over. Does it all just get tossed in the trash?
