Tampa International Airport will be closed from Tuesday, August 29, ahead of the arrival of storm Idalia.

The airport is located 70 miles west of Walt Disney World and is one of the airports used by travelers visiting the Central Florida theme parks.

All commercial operations will be suspended beginning at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, with the airport remaining closed until it can assess any damages later in the week.

The closure will allow the airport and its partners to prepare the airfield and terminals, including securing jet bridges, ground equipment, and any remaining aircraft before Idalia’s expected landfall early Wednesday as a potential major hurricane.

The airport anticipates reopening on Thursday morning, with damage assessments beginning after the storm passes.

Orlando International Airport has not yet announced any closure plans but has said that it expects flight cancellations and changes. Travelers should check with airlines for the latest.

Why do you have extremely dangerous in quotations?

JoeCamelAug 31, 2023

St Elmo's Fire This rare weather phenomena was spotted in the sky as Florida's Gulf Coast braced for the "extremely dangerous" Hurricane Idalia.

It’s going to be a very nice evening. Credit due to Disney for handling this storm very well.
