Following last week's playtest of Disney's latest free-roaming robotic characters inside Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland, Walt Disney Imagineering has shared a new photo of the team discussing the next steps with Disney CEO Bob Iger and Disney Parks Chairman Josh D'Amaro.

In a post on Instagram, WDI said, "We're so excited about the variety of ways our Imagineers are bringing new and innovative characters to life using sophisticated technology hidden in little droids like these!"

There is still no word on whether these new droid characters will become permanent additions at either Star Wars Galaxy's Edge lands. Still, Disney is clearly enthusiastic about the project and is open about revealing the technology to the public.

No, it would be like opening a DC-themed land and complaining because Superman isn't around. They do have Martian the Manhunter though.

It's odd to me how Disney rolls out these GE walk-around characters months after the show has finished, so they create no buzz or cross-promotion. Odder still when compared with Avenger's Campus, where new characters appear pretty much immediately after a show debuts. Different teams and budgets at work maybe?

They keep bringing Vader back in the TV shows, plus Rogue One. I don't think he's as outdated and irrelevant as you are saying.

Point taken, but Vader is much more timeless than Adam West. One of the smartest things they did with Kylo Ren was his fear of inferiority to Darth Vader.

Kylo Ren is a fantastic character. And not from a franchise that I thought was old when I was a kid 30 years ago. It would be like opening a DC themed land and complaining because Adam West Batman isn't walking around.

Chewie has been there for years. They have Kylo, is who far more interesting and relevant than Vader. I'd watch a Jedi training show with Old Man Luke and a puppet Yoda though. I've been saying that Old Man Luke teaching younglings would be a ton of fun. We just need more walk around droids and characters period. The droids that they brought out one weekend were incredible. Add some random aliens and such and the land becomes so much more interesting.

Not only does Disney keep giving us these characters nobody cares about, they do it long after the show has come and gone so they're not even beneficial from a marketing perspective. The people want Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Yoda, C-3PO, R2-D2, and other actual Star Wars characters that generations have loved.

Sabine Wren has arrived in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at the Disneyland Resort. Disney says you will be able to encounter her for a limited time during Season of the Force.

I'd settle for the Mandalorian theme song. It makes me happy. :)

I could've sworn it was played at the entrance tunnels.

All that work and you only hear bits of it in the two rides in the land. What a waste.
