PHOTOS - Preparations underway at Epcot for future nighttime spectaculars

Epcot future firework show preparations

Work is underway both onstage and backstage for the Illuminations replacement show set to debut in 2020.

In the fireworks marina behind the Outpost, ground clearing is underway on the site that will be used to build the floating set pieces that will be part of the new show.

In the World Showcase Lagoon, both of the islands are being worked on. Construction barges are working in the island closet to China.

On the second island near to Japan, barriers are in place, although heavy construction is yet to begin.

The unnamed new nighttime spectacular will celebrate how Disney music inspires people around the world, and will feature massive floating set pieces, custom-built LED panels, choreographed moving fountains, lights, pyrotechnics and lasers.

Before that new show begins, there will be a limited-time experience, called "Epcot Forever," which will debut in fall 2019 and will feature classic Epcot tunes.

"Epcot Forever" will begin with a spark of imagination that swells into an epic spectacle of fireworks, music, lighting, lasers, and special effects kites.

Each sentence of this felt like a dagger to the heart. Oh if only.

Quite honestly, they missed a once in a generation chance to properly fix so much. Update and redress the spine, not destroy, and the budget left over would be more than enough to overhaul the Imagination complex and make proper use of the theatre again and restore the ride to an E. Then the RoE format could have been plused / updated / upgraded / improved with like you say a narration by the Imag host(s) - like was the original plan for Forever. A tour of the parks individual areas and themes past and present, linking each theme to the planet. An all encompassing link of the park, its individual items, and the bigger picture. A new Spectro/Wishes combo or ToN/RoE just like those combos created a fully immersive and complete “package”. Uniquely new Epcot. Not Mk with oil rigs on a lake. IMHO.

Like, I certainly think EPCOT Forever is a lot better than Harmonious by a long shot from what we’ve seen so far. But I think if it were considered to be brought back. I would hope it’s reworked with a new ending/conclusion, some quotes changed around, and has Dreamfinder & Figment hosting it as opposed to just the children.

honestly, you wouldn’t believe the amount of murmurs we heard from guests as everyone was making their way out of World Showcase. So many complaining about the ending and how they’d wanna never see that show again or were debating whether they’d return to EPCOT in the future. Not good..

Exactly! As someone who was there on the night it debuted, (was there with @Figments Friend and a few others). Both the sudden silence, groans, and the instant negative reaction once that song blared out after everyone was initially enjoying the show before that ending was deafening. That conclusion/message seemed very clear to me, seemed like a slap in the face to EPCOT’s original vision, designers, and fans than anything else. The show was basically, “Hey remember what you all loved about EPCOT? Well screw that, The “whole new world” (formed by free-spirited creativity ‘apparently’.. still doesn’t make any sense to me) is full of movie IP tie-ins. Add the tacked on out of context quote from Walt about EPCOT always evolving or whatever. Man, that left such a negative taste in our mouths, we basically marched towards Living with the Land afterwards to cleanse our mind from that.

I know that question wasn't directed at me, but I'm going to guess a HUGE mixed bag. You have your Epcot purists like me who think it's too IP for that park. You have those who will argue we need to be open-minded to any and everything that is new, no questions asked. Even if it's a full show of Olaf doing cartwheels, we must accept it or we're "stubborn haters". And then you have those who fall somewhere in the middle. Opinions on this show are going to be as mixed as they come.

How well do you think Harm will be received? You think it will impress? or potentially be a flop?

Past opening night I just left at that segment. Beat the crowds a little and enjoyed a good show that just happened to end a little abruptly.

Those things look like they belong on the Nordic sea. If I saw those pictures without context I would NEVER guess they were of a Theme Park. Excepting the picture that reveals the whole of EPCOT, of course.

Now that I’m thinking about it, I wonder if this was a deliberate thing on Disney’s part to introduce the new projection show along with Harmonious. HEA show in WS and a IP free (that we know of) show around SE.

We'll be at the entrance plaza. That's our nighttime show now.

It was the most derided part of the show.

Yeah Myth is the new short film. Love the music. Hopefully Harm isn’t all IP and something like the new entrance music. Hopefully a new original theme song as well.
