PHOTOS - 'La Gelateria' coming to the Italy pavilion in EPCOT's World Showcase

Italy Pavilion construction walls - October 2020

Patina Restaurant Group is adding a new food and beverage location to the World Showcase between Italy and the American Adventure pavilions at EPCOT.

The walls have been up for a couple of weeks now, and we now have a permit allocated to the area (thanks to @danlb_2000 on the WDWMAGIC forums). The description doesn't offer much information beyond "Install new food vending building."

The contractor is Icarus Exhibits, and the permit has an expiration date of the end of 2021. Disney or Patina is yet to formally announced the project, but from its name of "La Gelateria,' we should be expecting a healthy dose of frozen Italian desserts. Patina operated all of the eateries within the Italy Pavilion, along with the upcoming Space 2020.

With some good landscaping it could look good

To reference what the poster before me is talking about β€” appears to be a Fountain being constructed on the left: Also themeing elements finished on roof of structure: A look from the last update, metal/black grates and stonework added since then. Source and more pics:

Good thing America is between Italy and Japan.

It would give them an axis of powerful attractions.

I've thought that too. Although they could have put the Gelataria basically where it is now and just faced it in the other direction, so you still had to enter through that area of the pavilion. That would leave the opposite side available as a ride entrance/queue.

Naw, it will be the Matterhorn between them ;)

maybe they would link the italy and german pavilions with a rhine river attraction between them?

Yes, the optimistic side of me thinks they are saving that spot for the future ride entrance. Right? RIGHT?

J45466 days ago

i think that spot would work great but would block an expansion if they ever decided to add something like perhaps a gondola themed ride through a mock up of venice in the massive plot behind the pavilion.
