The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers coming to Disney's BoardWalk at Walt Disney World looks likely to miss its 2023 opening.

The official Cake Bake Shop website has been updated to remove mention of opening in 2023.

The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers, will be replacing the ESPN Club, which closed as Walt Disney World shutdown during the pandemic.

Disney says, "The Cake Bake Shop will bring exquisite dining, delicious Afternoon Tea, delectable desserts, marvelous champagne and fanciful cocktails for an extraordinary and whimsical experience."

Last I heard there is some contract with Swolphin that requires them to operate ADH. It sees something like a dozen or two people a night, there would be no reason to continue operating regularly otherwise.

They *could,* but they don't wanna. At least, not any more. There was a time WDW advertised the BWI's boardwalk as a destination to go to once the parks closed, like Down Town Disney. But, it's a hotel where guests sleep. They didn't want late night loud drunks there (especially those who just 'drank around the World'). So, they stopped that kind of advertisement. Also, the venues at BWI are the same types of venues that every Deluxe Resort has, but, located on an outdoor mall rather than attached to an indoor lobby. So, you can get almost the same things there that you can get at B&Y, GF, Poly, Swolphin, etc... BoardWalk has some unique stuff, but that's mostly for their own guests. Swan has a karaoke. GF has a tea time. BoardWalk has dueling pianos as some street entertainers. Other than that, it's just the regular Deluxe accommodations. Not a place for several thousand people to converge upon.

Is that 12/8/2024 or 12/8/2025? Truthfully both are a little iffy at this pace.

Sad to hear that Cake Bake most likely won't be done by our 12/8 stay. Will cross my fingers!

I always thought that with some modifications the Dance Hall would be a great venue for a Jazz dinner show. Or some sort of entertainment from the 1940s era.

I agree. They could use the second story as a lounge/event space for the conventions. It could also have great acts, like jazz bands, dancers, etc. It's got a ton of potential.

I always thought that Atlantic Hall would be a great outdoor / water view restaurant. They certainly have the space.

There is so much that could be done to make The Boardalk the central hub for all evening entertainment...Like a mini Pleasure Island... Not in content but the idea that his space is complete and fully fleshed out with a couple new restaurants (a casual late night diner spot among others...Parks are not open until Midnight anymore...People end up back at the resorts earlier and there is little to do on Crescent Lake... Let the Boardwalk be the spot... Put the carousel on the lawn where it would look great and add some kinetics to the area...Build something new behins Atlantic Dance... Bring Atlantic Dance back to life as a restaurant or nightly music venue. If they built a casual restaurant on the backside of the Dance Hall they would then have access to a kitchen for food options at Atlantic Dance Hall. So much they could and should do.

The BoardWalk is in a sad state right now with the shuttered restaurants, loss of food stands, and still a wonky Dance Hall. Sure that Spoodles, Seashore Sweets', and ESPN (plus arcade) were 90s dated, but the BoardWalk back then packed a bigger punch in totality than it has in the last few years.

It’s still on the site but it feels to be deader than dead. It’s going to be 5 years. Last chance would be BW re-launch whenever Cake Bake Shop opens.
