ABC Commissary switching to fast-casual made-to-order dining

The ABC Commissary at Disney's Hollywood Studios is switching things up in time for the holidays.

Starting November 30 2016, the restaurant will move to made-to-order dining for dinner, but retaining counter service for lunch.

Operating as a fast-casual restaurant at dinner, guests will place their order at the register, and then receive a pager. Once ready, the food will be brought directly to the table.

No word yet on the specific menu, but expect to see more speciality dishes, with an angle towards being healthy.

So has anyone encoutered this new "Fast Casual" Layout since it's rollout last November and if it was better or far more worse?

The menu changed just last week for dinner, and it was when serving the new dinner menu, where they give you a numbered coaster and bring your food to the table that we had all the issues.

Hopefully they will improve it because I agree with what some others have said, this was by far the worst food I have ever had at WDW. They have never seemed to be able to get QS right at DHS in general, very puzzling. And wow, I had not looked at QS menus in a while. Prices are in the stratosphere.

I had the opportunty to experience the new service model tonight, and I will not likely be going back for a while. I never actually ate there however because after waiting 'over' 30 minutes (the friend I was with waited over 40 minutes) after the order was placed and our food still didn't show up, we were over it and headed up front to get a refund. Now, I fully acknowledge that I'm not the most patient person in the world, but this time it was not just me. There were 8 others up front demanding refunds because there were simply not going wait any longer. All of them had been waiting over 30 minutes and were just tired of waiting. One manager ended up dedicated to the end register just issuing one refund after another. I have no idea whether this was just an anomaly and something fell off the tracks tonight, or if this service model was what they intended. If it was the plan, they'll likely need a new plan quickly because if the number of refunds I saw them having to issue tonight becomes a pattern, the place will be empty. I hope it was just an anomaly and things get on track but I'll be waiting a little while to hear reports of a more timely service experience before I'll be heading back there again. It's unfortunate because the menu looked interesting, but I never actually got to taste the food.

Sigh - just DEMO the thing..... that way? It can keep up with the rest of a very "Demo'd" park...... Call us when you are done...... and you have a park. "All personal opinion - I'm not necessarily right, no one else is necessarily wrong."

I've never minded the Commissary's food?? IDK, seemed okay, filled a hole.

I would have also gone with Are Burgers Consumable?

I thought ABC stood for 'Anything But the Commisary' when searching for food...

Cmdr_CrimsonNov 23, 2016

They missed a good opportunity to call it the ABC Dot...

I dunno how this came about but back then when I was a CM, Cosmic's CM's tend to "bully" Comissary CM's. You would think that a Cosmic CM's natural rivalry would be Plaza Pavillion, or if you wanna keep it in MK but not in TL, Pecos or Pinocchio. But no, Comissary it is. I still don't know how that became possible since its not like we shared the same theme park, or bus or locker room, but somehow there was a rivalry. Guess it's the food. I recall one incident where it became physical. There was a Cosmic's only party at this dude's house, near Shaq's house, and somehow some Comissary CM's crashed it. There was an all out brawl that ensued.

Because how would they know where you are sitting? I think what you'll see here is a Panera-like experience... not a 'hostess will seat you now..' situation Pager is a poor term here.. it would be more like the BoG rose.

I have to say that the one meal that I ate there, many years ago, was the single worst meal I have ever had at either WDW or DLR. I've never gone back. With a new menu, I might consider it...

Take the food from Cosmic Rays or The Electric Umbrella......And have it sit out for two and a half hours....That's the ABC Commissary...
