Laying replacement track at the Walt Disney World Railway
Posted: Wednesday February 26, 2020 9:21am ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

Work is wrapping up on replacing the missing sections of track on the Walt Disney World Railroad.

A stretch of track was removed to allow for work on creating a retention pond near to Space Mountain as part of the TRON coaster construction project.

The Railroad is currently closed due to construction associated with the TRON LightCycle Run rollercoaster, and does not yet have a confirmed reopening date. A static exhibit makes one of the trains available for up-close viewing, which is currently located in the Fantasyland station

If that was a problem you could just tell the customers "That noise you hear is TIE fighters going by."

YouTube says the rails are attached straight to the ballast

This reminds me of the story that Space 220 had not properly accounted for the noise from Test Track before it began construction.

If the track is on concrete rather than ballast in the tunnels (don't remember and have been through them hundreds of times....) then this is probably a rumor. However, stranger things have happened.....

The MkVIs would agree with the railroad issue. As would the original Imagination ride.

This tech needs to replace the Speedway..

"Bring back the WDWRR!" 🚂 🎄

I honestly hope this isn’t true, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it isn’t, but while I remind myself of other stupid construction screwups at WDW over the last several years, I also wouldn’t be surprised if it is true, sadly. In terms of how they found out (if it is true), I’m sure it was nothing more than simply measuring from the top of the opening of the tunnel to the rail. No ballast in either tunnel.

danlb_2000May 20, 2021

... and considering the fact that it's still going to be a while before the train re-opens, they should have plenty of time to resolve the issue.

Looks like concrete -- here is a google image coming out of the pirate tunnel:,-81.5844212,3a,75y,48.54h,68.27t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sNe19kiiMO-tndjZaRhcTzQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 And here is Splash:,-81.5852077,3a,75y,52.91h,62.41t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sDH_yKPFYnf16v8NdDHr5eg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 So, seems this rumor is probably bunk. Hopefully those links work. Best images I could find.

Do either of wdw tunnels have ballast? I’m almost certain the splash tunnel is ties directly on concrete.

EricsBiscuitMay 20, 2021

Then they must have changed the grade quite a bit. I would hate to find out how they figured this out if true. Hopefully no incidents. I would like to think this is just a rumor because it will be a lot of work to fix.

Do I need to wear a mask when I'm riding at 3, or can I enjoy the liquid sunshine directly?
