The new 2000 Sorcer Mickey Wand icon was officially dedicated today in a gala celebration.
In a nighttime dedication at Epcot featuring Sorcerer Mickey Mouse, hundreds of swirling images and fireworks filling the sky, Walt Disney World Resort Wednesday opened its 15-month Millennium Celebration with the theme "Celebrate the Future Hand in Hand."
Likenesses of cars, trains, great works of art like the Mona Lisa, cultural icons like Elvis and great thinkers like Einstein seemed to fly around Epcot's Future World. Then to propel everyone into the new era, Sorcerer Mickey led the lighting of Disney's millennium icon -- an enormous red "2000" suspended above Spaceship Earth, the grand symbol of Epcot.
Sorcerer Mickey was joined by Paul Pressler, president of Walt Disney Attractions, and Al Weiss, president of Walt Disney World Resort.
"Spaceship Earth is the perfect symbol to welcome guests from around the world for a terrific celebration of global proportions," Pressler said.
