Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World will close for refurbishment in early 2024.

The fan-favorite rollercoaster will close on January 8, 2024, and a Disney spokesperson has told WDWMAGIC that it will reopen in summer 2024. Disney has also confirmed that the closure is a routine refurbishment.

The ride has been experiencing extended downtimes in recent years, and a lengthy refurbishment in 2023 was expected to address those issues. However, since the 2023 refurbishment, reliability issues have persisted, and this refurbishment may be another attempt at a resolution.

The possibility of a retheme of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster lingers, although there are no plans that we are aware of. Speculation has surrounded Aerosmith's involvement with Rock 'n' Roller Coaster for years, and recent accusations against frontman Steve Tyler have intensified rumors of a replacement for the band.

The Muppets Mayhem creator Jeff Yorkes, co-creator, added weight to speculation that a Muppets Mayhem makeover may be coming to Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. Posting on Twitter in response to a June 2023 article discussing the rumor, Yorkes said, "Not gonna lie-- this was absolutely part of our original pitch and is another piece of this dream. Fingers-crossed that it happens." However, it was recently reported that The Muppets Mayhem has been canceled after only one season on the Disney+ streaming platform, making a Muppet retheme now seem unlikely.

When we were at MGM in 2007, we rode RnR then we could hardly exit the building through the gift shop. Many guests were lined up in the narrow exit hallway and the shop was full of guests. The CM advised Steven Tyler and his lady friend were soon to be finished with their ride and soon to be entering the gift shop. We saw them both looking at some T shirts, many were cheering some screaming and Steven took it all in smiling throughout. He was certainly high on life.

Yes, I just confirmed by calling. I got confused because a cast member on the chat service told me that it wasn't. Thank you!!

It currently has a 55 minute wait according to My Disney Experience, so it is certainly open.

Has anyone at the parks actually seen it running today? According to the Disney website, it's still open and has no official reopen date.

I’ve heard they removed the song dude looks like a lady from the coaster. I’ve only heard it from one person and not anywhere else. I assume it to not be true. Has anyone heard of this was the case? Always thought this song worked really well on the coaster. The same person also reported a smoother ride.

Steven Tyler looks about 45 on RnRC so I want his skincare regimen.

Roller coaster with reference to 75+yo guys, not really surprised it doesn't stay up and running :hilarious:

About 1.5-2 years ago it got really bad to the point I would skip it. They then fixed the wheels (due to a supply chain issue) and the coaster got back to being very smooth and enjoyable with little to no headbanging. Mind you, I wear glasses, so my ear hitting the side of the restraint was very uncomfortable. Thankfully, that issue was mostly resolved when they fixed it all up.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree as the last time my DW and I rode it 2 years go, it was not as smooth as it used to be. It was a must do multiple times every trip, and we couldn't ride it after that. We'll give it a try now, though. Thanks.

It was a smooth ride prior to its refurbishment. Felt brand new

I've seen a report online from someone who rode it and said it was much smoother.
