Beginning today, Disney's Hollywood Studios is returning to the old 'Rope Drop' opening procedure on all regular non-Extra Magic Hour mornings at the park.

Guests without breakfast reservations will be allowed through the touch points at 8:30am and onto Hollywood Blvd. Guests will be able to go as far at the 50's Prime Time Cafe, Min and Bill's Dockside, and to the Trolley Car Cafe, with ropes at each of those locations.

Oscars, Crossroads of the World, Mickey's of Hollywood and the Starbucks Trolley Car Cafe on Hollywood Blvd will all be open for the early arrivals.

The rope drop will then take place at each of those three locations at 8:45am, including welcome announcement, with cast on-hand to lead guests to the attractions.

Guests with early dining reservations will be able to enter the park at 7:45am.

Until today's return to the old rope drop, guests were queued outside of the main entrance before being allowed into the park.

A similar practice is being used at Cedar Point now (giant rollercoaster park in ohio, not even close to disney's theming and planning but a lot of good fun), and having experienced it, I think this is a positive change. People get a taste of the park and don't feel so frustrated about being outside of the park. It's a good feeling, and a good plan.

Me too. And why not duck into a store or Starbucks to get out of the sun and spend some money? A win-win for all.

Seems like they like to stop doing the rope drop only to bring it back due to crowd control...If they did that at MK by the Hub and bypass the morning opening...Things would really hit the fan...

Was another one between Great Movie Ride and the pop corn stand before Sfi-fi drive in started breakfast. May move that to prevent going on Star Tours early.

As much as many trash the park, its worth it to ride Toy Story, just a fantastic ride, as many times before the droves of people come in the park. Plus you can pretty much hit everything you want by lunch, grab some brown derby and then hit the next park. I do enjoy the EMH AM at DHS.

There are people that still get up early and go to DHS? That blows my mind! I stroll in around noon, brown derby it and usually at Epcot by 2;30.;)

I think this is a great idea they need to adopt at all four parks. Soak in the atmosphere at bit, grab a coffee or a bite to eat, take a few photos, etc. I really enjoy the Magic Kingdom welcome show as well. It really starts the day off right! But with some modifications, couldn't it be done inside the park, around Town Square or along Main St?

So I don't see any mention of a "show" – just the announcement. No storm troopers or anything? Just trying to figure out if I really want to wake up that early LOL. Is the tune in lounge open for a drink at 9 AM? LOL. It's probably the only time to get a seat at the bar without waiting. ;)

I can see how that might be an issue. Me being me, I would not stand in the clump of people. So that means a whole bunch of people who came in after me will be in front of me in the clump lol. So why go early? However it seems like there's a lot more room to mill about at Hollywood studios (?)

The welcome show was novel for the what, 13 years it's been running? It's time-I'd rather wander Main Street
