50th anniversary Cinderella Castle additions - April 1 2021
Posted: Thursday April 1, 2021 2:53pm ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

The preparations for the 50th anniversary Cinderella Castle additions hit a major milestone last night with the completion of the first phase of the project.

All of the lower level decor is now in position, giving guests a glimpse of the additions as soon as they step foot on Main Street U.S.A.

Alongside the addition of the new draperies at the front of Cinderella Castle, work has been ongoing on retouching the blue paintwork on the spires.

The diagonal striping now has a lot more contrast.

With this first phase of the project complete, attention now moves onto installing the golden ribbons that will be placed on the spires. This is likely to require a crane in place of the high reach boom lifts that have been used so far.

When complete there will be 113 pieces of new decor installed, and it all officially gets unveiled on October 1 2021.

By "supports", I assume you mean the blue bars the swirls are mounted to? Those don't bother me. They blend in good it seems. Just like the dream lights. You could tell they were there but they camouflaged well too.

I'm not one to jump on the bash train, but wow, I really dislike the jewelry. It cheapens the rest of the additions on the castle and really emphasizes the plastic look, especially the bunting. I would have said go with a different design than do plastic bunting and jewels.

I am not a fan... Rather have the pink birthday cake. It at least was not showing all the supports and didn't look so half done. I will see in person in 22 days. Not excited based on pictures.

I think the size of the garland is designed to look in proportion with the forced perspective. If you look closely the upper garland is slightly smaller than the lower garland.

Paint it to some off white color, and it would be literally perfect.

They photographed it at the optimal time of day for that paint...lol I don't hate the decor... The Garland things are a little too small and fussy looking compared to the other decor elements... Overall aside from the pink castle, I like it... Just not pink.

So just repaint with red and green and presto, you have the xmas castle - synergy!

I don't looooooove these new garland additions. @MisterPenguin is right, they really look like Christmas decorations that have been spray painted. Hopefully the rest of the additions will feel more exciting and less recycled.

That pitch of that turret roof is far too steep for Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Show this picture to a casual Disney fan and I guarantee they say that’s Sleeping Beauty’s Castle
