Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World will close for refurbishment in early 2024.

The fan-favorite rollercoaster will close on January 8, 2024, and a Disney spokesperson has told WDWMAGIC that it will reopen in summer 2024. Disney has also confirmed that the closure is a routine refurbishment.

The ride has been experiencing extended downtimes in recent years, and a lengthy refurbishment in 2023 was expected to address those issues. However, since the 2023 refurbishment, reliability issues have persisted, and this refurbishment may be another attempt at a resolution.

The possibility of a retheme of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster lingers, although there are no plans that we are aware of. Speculation has surrounded Aerosmith's involvement with Rock 'n' Roller Coaster for years, and recent accusations against frontman Steve Tyler have intensified rumors of a replacement for the band.

The Muppets Mayhem creator Jeff Yorkes, co-creator, added weight to speculation that a Muppets Mayhem makeover may be coming to Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. Posting on Twitter in response to a June 2023 article discussing the rumor, Yorkes said, "Not gonna lie-- this was absolutely part of our original pitch and is another piece of this dream. Fingers-crossed that it happens." However, it was recently reported that The Muppets Mayhem has been canceled after only one season on the Disney+ streaming platform, making a Muppet retheme now seem unlikely.

Easy theme idea. You must avoid the press because YOU the rider is the new HIT star, and Bob Iger wants you on a contract. On the way you see a bunch of celebrities and like, there's this business man, who tells you "NOW DON'T BE LATE, BABE! MWAH!" Also a bunch of figures of B-list celebs. See? Pretty sure this has never been done before.

Anyone heard recently how this is going? It's such a long refurb period, curious how much they're having to address and if it's just the braking issues or a much longer list they're working thru. Doesn't help that it's near impossible to watch for progress from the outside....

That’s the ride next door, you know the one that’s always on all the park maps.

Having just visited with RNRC being down, it really messes up HS. It may be the keystone ride of the park.

Most of the discussion takes place in the following thread, but it's not really about what's happening. More specifically, it's people fighting about what they want or don't. https://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/rnrc-retheme.973841/ I hope someone has a real answer for your question because I want to ride this coaster again.

Sorry in advance if I'm bumping something that's obvious. Are there any updates on this one? Any expected reopening time frame?

Someone posted a while back (not sure where) that the material used in the current brakes was not correct for the heat generated or something similar, and was breaking down faster than expected. Too tired to try and find it, though.

To be fair, they should re-theme Star Tours to Indy at this point or move it to Star Wars land. I for one don't want to see the same IPs in all 4 parks including the Fab 4 or 5 if you count Goofy. They have plenty of IP to go around.

Because other than being old, Aerosmith and ToT have so much in common thematically.

If Avatar is worthy of a whole land and Star Wars gets a whole land plus another ride, I imagine the MCU would support 2 rides, especially if one is at DHS where it definitely belongs.
