Liberty Square Riverboat closing for refurbishment in January

The Liberty Square Riverboat at the Magic Kingdom is scheduled to close in January as part of its regular refurbishment program.

The refurbishment begins January 23 through to January 27, reopening to guests on January 28 2015. You can stay up-to-date with all current and upcoming refurbishments on our refurb tracker.

I also assume a routine boiler inspection and maintenance of seals etc on the steam engines. You don't want to shut steam powered equipment too long or corrosion sets in, I could bore everyone with the chemistry but I'll skip it.

To do what? Sweep the decks and polish the brass? :D I'd guess this is a typical annual boiler inspection and cleaning. Those types of steam powered machines need routine maintenance and occasional rebuilding. What's more interesting is... Because WDW no longer has a second big boat to use, and they closed the Canoes and Keelboats decades ago, the Rivers of America will be inaccessible that week. That's a huge chunk of the park's property to allow to go unused because they've only got one boat left.
