Gateway Gifts remodel January 2020
Posted: Tuesday January 21, 2020 11:37am ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

Gateway Gifts at Epcot reopened Sunday following a brief remodel, and before we take a look inside, the classic sign outside the store remains.

Located under Spaceship Earth, the store is now the park's package pickup point, which relocated from the now closed Gift Stop outside the main entrance.

The remodel includes new registers, new flooring, and new paint color scheme.

During the closure, new concrete was installed outside the store, matching that of the recently reopened eastern main entrance side. The new concrete is a crushed stone type, replacing the former colored concrete.

Are the parks closing earlier now than they were in the pre-pandemic years, though? Honestly don't know, but it seemed like the earlier closing hours began before the pandemic.

Universal did the same. It’s a Covid era ”cost-saving” measure that they knew they could get away with

Yes, I remember being there in August 2017 when the latest park closing was Epcot at 9pm and maybe AK around the same time as Pandora was still new. It was weird how early the parks all shut down.

Prior to covid I recall Epcot having 10pm closings during the busier times. We need that back yesterday...

The park stayed open til 11pm in the early years. My first visit was 1983, and if I recall, that was the case.

I really do miss having the parks open later. One of the worst casualties of Covid.

I recall World Showcase having a select few pavilions stay open till 11 and offering alcohol. I think that they even tried to use some type of wrist band system. Maybe they could try this again. Close FW pavilions after Luminous, but keep World Showcase and the World Celebration Gardens open, serving drinks and some food offerings. Keep it open till midnight, maybe for adults only (I know that won’t be appreciated by everyone). It just seems like it could create a really nice atmosphere.

During EMH's is the only time I recall..

I could have sworn it used to… but that’s probably just me being a hater who is remembering how things used to be.

Epcot needs to stay open til 11. But by then they'd have to trespass half the crowd.

Just remember the "other" reason to come to EPCOT during the later part of the day..😉

This annoys me too, it's nice coming back from World Showcase, but especially this time of year, good lighting does very little for most of the day. Sunset starts after 8pm and both fireworks and park closing are at 9pm, which means most people are in World Showcase already at sunset. Even in December though, it gets dark around 5pm, that's still only four hours of a twelve hour day. To be fair, we're often still in the park at 9:30pm since it takes a bit of time to exit. Hopefully the area will continue to liven up during the day with CommuniCore Plaza opening up.
