The major refurbishment project at Disney's Contemporary Resort will move into its restaurants later this summer.

Beginning July 16 2021, The Wave will close to begin its refurbishment, and is expected to reopen by Walt Disney World's 50th anniversary on October 1 2021.

We know that some of the guest rooms in the hotel are being re-themed to include The Incredibles, and something similar may be possible at The Wave. The restaurant has not been particularly popular with guests since it opened in 2008, and a tie in with The Incredibles may ignite more interest in the location.

Disney has yet to make any announcements on plans for the space.

Do they consider Steakhouse 55 a "casual" restaurant? That's my only concern is that it's going to be more like a Bonanza than a "nice place" :D

Callback to Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel. Absolutely love it.

I'm in.

LOVE the breakfast at the Wave! We think it’s the best breakfast on property and a favorite of my family too. I’m hoping for just a refurb without an Incredibles layover or a menu change..🤞🏻

All these retheming ideas when all I truly want is the return of the food & fun center

the chocolate flight from the wave was my favorite dessert of all the different places we visited last month

Was just reading his bio on wikipedia - his claim to fame is Celebration. Explains a lot.

IP infusion doesn’t mean character meal. I’m thinking they won’t want to go overboard on this one as it’s usually the hangout for convention goers.

I have never been to it, probably because The Contemporary is the one resort I haven't checked out in the last 25 years, but I have considered it many times. Looking at photos the entrance and the lounge look cool, but that dining room interior and those chairs for sure leave something to be desired. If they were not already doing a space theme at Epcot I would say that would work here, in light of that maybe some sort of journey to the center of the earth kinda thing would be cool.

I went to The Wave once. Completely underwhelmed. Decided never to go back again. Only a complete revamp would entice me.

I was really excited to try The Wave on my next trip. Guess it will have to wait...

Progress City Radio Hour just released the second part of their interview with Tom Morris. In it he tells a story of Peter Rummell, then head of Walt Disney Imagineering, not recognizing and dismissing images of the Contemporary as not appropriate for Walt Disney World.

The menu and service have been great, but it looks like a conference banquet room.
