Millennium Celebration

Walt Disney World

Description

The Walt Disney World Millennium Celebration began on October 1, 1999 and continued for 15 months through January 1, 2001.

The Millennium Celebration press event takes place with the dedication of the Millennium Spaceship Earth icon (Sorcerer's Apprentice hand and wand waving over the geosphere) on September 29, 1999 and the dedication of Millennium Village on September 30, 1999 at Epcot.

Millennium Village, a new pavilion which include exhibits from more than 35 countries, the United Nations, and The World Bank, opens in World Showcase at Epcot.

"IllumiNations 2000: Reflections of Earth" officially debuts above the World Showcase Lagoon at Epcot (Unofficial opening takes places on September 22, 1999).

"Tapestry of Nations," a parade of giant, colorful puppet-like figures and huge percussion units designed to resemble colossal timepieces, debuts in three locations around the World Showcase promenade at Epcot (Unofficial opening takes place on September 25, 1999).

Pin trading begins and, after proving to be a great success, is adopted as a new tradition at Walt Disney World.
