Permits have now been filed for the lengthy refurbishment of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World.

The Aerosmith-themed rollercoaster closure began on January 8, 2024, and a Disney spokesperson has told WDWMAGIC that it will reopen in the summer of 2024. Disney has also confirmed that the closure is a routine refurbishment, and no changes will be made to the theme.

A permit has been filed for the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster project with Adena Corporation. Adena has worked on several Disney projects, including TRON Lightcycle Run and recent work on the EPCOT redevelopment. Adena was also the contractor on Rock 'n' Roller Coaster's three-month-long refurbishment in the first half of 2023.

Disney's official website states, "Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith is currently closed for refurbishment. Please check back here for updates."

Based on last year's refurbishment, we can expect Rock 'n' Roller Coaster to reopen before the busy summer season, which begins in late May.

The ride has been experiencing extended downtimes in recent years, and this refurbishment likely addresses some of those issues and continues the progress made in 2023.

damn. i was hoping this would be fixed. i thought 6months would be enough time. im hoping by the 13th july it will be done so at least i can get it in once

Wasn’t RnRC only down a few months last year?

Andrew251 day ago

Yes, but I imagine that wasn't a proper update to any ride mechanics - don't believe we saw any significant permit last year for that refurb.

While I don’t disagree, and I know it has no bearing on the current work, RNRC went down for over half of last year as well.

It took Universal around 8 months to reopen Mummy after it's long refurb from improved mechanics in the launching system and general upkeep. Rides at DHS have needed this sort of refurb for years now.

They had wanted it open by July 4 but I don’t know if the actual work is going to allow that. Haven’t heard much.

im really hoping this isnt closed that long

That is not the case.

Why do I feel like they aren't doing anything in there and just letting it sit while saving money on operation costs. Being that it's closed until the middle of July, it seems like it's closed indefinitely. This is gonna be another Rocket Rods, Horizon, or Stitch situation.

Will they just drop the news its open. or maybe a few weeks out give a completion date. im coming from the UK first 2 weeks of July. hoping its open for then

I’m hoping they have an internal goal of it being open by then to help spread crowds to other parks. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen.

So Tiana bayou water ride has officially got the drop date. Any chance of the re-open date too?

Any idea of date of completion

Maybe the 0-60 is extrapolated?
