EPCOT Future World core demolition - August 27 2020

Demolition work appears to be back underway on the central core at EPCOT, although at a vastly reduced pace.

From spending some time around the area, most of the site appears to be inactive, but a handful of workers are present. Sounds can be heard inside some of the buildings, but it is difficult to isolate specific locations. Visually, workers can be seen using metal cutting torches on the upper areas of Mouse Gear.

The plans for the area remain uncertain, as Disney grapples with reopening the parks amid COVID-19 and balancing expenditure. Our most recent information suggests that the plans for the eastern side, which includes the former Mouse Gear, Electric Umbrella and Innoventions remain unchanged and will go ahead with new merchandise and food & beverage lcoations. However, the western side seems much more uncertain, with Disney already suggesting that the multi level festival building has been abandoned. The fate of the still standing Communicore building remains unclear.

What a headline.

Lights are used in the day, yes - but provided a much better show at night. Much like America Gardens Theater, this spot will really be utilized as the sun lowers in the sky and the rest of the Epcot lighting (however much of that lighting is still functional) comes on.

One thing is for sure, guests will be hot most of the year, and always standing while watching these shows. I'll take an air conditioned space and a place to sit anytime!

Stage lighting is used during the day. The lights imply nothing about showtime plans.

I would assume many shows will be at night, hence the lights.

I I know they tore down the original innoventions buildings by accident, but I wish they simply gutted the buildings and put a stage inside the building so the performances could be enjoyed in an air conditioned space, and maybe even with seating!! I know, I know, I am such a dreamer. This standing in the hot sun to watch stuff is not good. Yes, I remember watching the fountain of nations in the hot sun, but the water spray from fountains was like natural air conditioning and it was bearable to stand there and watch the fountain show.

Besides this lighting, how much construction is actually still going on in terms of the “Transformation”? I was there two weeks ago, and saw some walls by the Moana bathroom/utilidor stairs and the Imagination path flex space along with the CommuniCore area, but I don’t remember any walls other than that. When this opens, is that all the walls left?

Yes. They could have easily done a drop, using the triangle pattern for the grid vs. the standard squares/rectangles. It could be filled with some type of tile - with necessary ones removed based on each show's lighting/sound/rigging requirements. The sleek underside almost looks worse with this approach IMHO.

nope just how it appears from this image maybe only from the side from a box square building. The acne pimples 😐 yeah were a real period.

I think the big problem with this is sleek, shinny surface it is in front of which just makes all wiring stick out like a soar thumb. Compare it to American Gardens theater where it all sort of get swallowed by the dark space over the stage.
