Taylor Swift is headed to infinity and beyond. The 14-time GRAMMY Award-winning artist has announced a brand-new original song, "I Knew It, I Knew You," written specifically for Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5, arriving in theaters on June 19.

The song — co-written and produced by Swift and longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff — drops on all streaming platforms and digital stores on Friday, June 5. It will also appear on the official Toy Story 5 soundtrack, releasing the same day as the film.

The Song

"I Knew It, I Knew You" is tied directly to Jessie the cowgirl, whose story began back in Toy Story 2. Swift has described the track as a return to her country roots, drawing on the styles that shaped her career as a songwriter.

Toy Story 5 director and screenwriter Andrew Stanton spoke to the connection:

"It's incredible just how meaningful it's been having Taylor write and perform this song. Her connection to Jessie and the immediate way she understood what the character was going through was undeniable. The song is so deeply connected to Toy Story. So much so that on first listen, it instantly felt like it had always belonged there, like a long-lost family member. It was kismet."

Three Exclusive CD Editions

Pre-sales are now live on Swift's website for three exclusive CD editions. Each features:

  • The song as it appears in the film
  • A special acoustic version
  • A special piano version

All three include unique vocals and production.

The Buildup

The announcement didn't come out of nowhere. Over the weekend, mysterious "TS" billboards — a nod to both Toy Storyand Taylor Swift's shared initials — appeared in Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Toronto, Mexico City, and London. A Toy Story 5-themed countdown on Swift's official website, alongside additional billboards in New York and Los Angeles, preceded today's reveal.

"I Knew It, I Knew You" releases June 5. Toy Story 5 opens in theaters June 19.

Aye. It's good to hear. I just hope it might win over people like myself whose black, shriveled husks of hearts walked away after the first half hour of Toy Story 4 performed character assassination on both Buzz and Woody.

Can't wait for post-apocalyptic Toy Story where Buzz and Woody start rebuilding civilization after the fall of mankind. They then find and fix up the Pizza Planet truck, giving it Forky-style sentience, and thus kicking off the Cars franchise. Which means that no there wasn't a Cars-universe WWII....Sarge was just a museum piece. It also explains how and why Jimi Hendrix exists in the Cars universe. EDIT - And if we tie WALL-E into the mix.... Yeah, humans went extinct trying to grow pizza while continuing to soylent green themselves into the next big flavor fad. "You got a friend in me. I think it was Jim."

It strangely reminds me of one of Meat Loaf's more forgettable tracks.

Wonder if Disney regrets not having grogu’s inner Swiftee on full display… 😉

Can already picture the flashback sequence between Jessie and Emily.

I'm no Swiftie, but this is her best song in a long time.

You're never going to please 'everyone'. You target the biggest portion of people you can, and do so by giving them the things they've proven they like.
