Universal's first European theme park now has an official name and logo. Comcast NBCUniversal has confirmed the resort will be called Universal United Kingdom Resort — and construction at its Bedford site is set to begin soon.

The name and branding have been revealed alongside confirmation that the project is moving into the construction phase, keeping the resort on track for a 2031 opening.

The Official Name and Logo

The resort's official name — Universal United Kingdom Resort — is accompanied by a new logo featuring the iconic Universal globe, rendered in a deep blue starfield with gold lettering. The branding carries the "A Comcast Company" designation beneath.

Construction Is Coming

The 540-acre Bedford site sits 45 minutes outside London, with fast rail links to the capital and strong transport connections across the UK and Europe. Construction is expected to begin soon, with a 2031 opening targeted.

When it opens, Universal United Kingdom Resort will be the largest visitor attraction in the UK.

What's Planned

Universal United Kingdom Resort will include:

  • A full-scale theme park with multiple immersive lands, innovative attractions, and story-driven experiences
  • A 500-room hotel
  • A retail, dining, and entertainment complex

Brian Roberts and Mike Cavanagh, Co-CEOs of Comcast Corporation, said it was "a proud moment" for the company as it brings the first Universal theme park and resort to Europe.

Mark Woodbury, Chairman and CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, said: "We have a bold ambition to bring Universal's innovative and immersive experiences to new audiences. Universal United Kingdom Resort reflects that long-term strategy focused on key markets while continuing to enhance our existing parks."

Part of a Global Expansion

Universal United Kingdom Resort joins a string of major projects currently underway for Universal Destinations & Experiences:

  • Universal Epic Universe, Orlando — recently completed its first full year, driving 12 consecutive months of year-over-year growth in Orange County tourism tax revenue
  • Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift at Universal Studios Hollywood — opening this summer
  • Universal Kids Resort, Frisco, Texas — opens July 1

Economic Impact

Universal United Kingdom Resort is expected to deliver:

  • An estimated £50 billion economic boost by 2055
  • Around 20,000 construction jobs, peaking at 5,000 on site
  • 8,000 permanent operational roles at opening, growing to 10,000 within 20 years
  • Around 80% of employees drawn from Bedford, Central Bedfordshire, Luton, and Milton Keynes

It's a legit account, but I don't think the wording is specific enough to say that own global rights. It definitely hints at something bigger than just Japan, but it stops short of saying Pokémon can be used at every Universal park. It hints at it, but it doesn't confirm it.

According to Universal Creative (assuming that’s a legit Universal account), they do own the global rights.

They don’t even have exclusivity in Japan. https://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-news/see-what-its-like-to-visit-the-pokepark-kanto-attraction-in-japan

A play on “catch them if they can”? 👏👏👏 Pretty sure Universal hold worldwide theme park rights.

mkt6 hours ago

If they even can.

Probably fighting in a council meeting that they should block annual pass sales.

Personally I think they’d be mad not to use Pokemon.

By the way, where’s @DonniePeverley ? He was adamant this wouldn’t get planning permission and that Universal would go to Spain.

There were clues in the concept art released. And a rumour of no clones from the US parks. From memory, possibilities and clues included: Jurassic Park Back to the Future James Bond Paddington LotR - if they can get the rights off a Scandinavian company Minions And there’s no chance of Harry Potter, which has its own studios pretty near by. But we might as well start again with the brainstorming.

Universal should get the theme park rights or license for the Lord of the Rings.

Now that we know the name, I’m ready for all the rumors of what’s going to be in universal Uk.

Universal UK but not EU. Not very united either.

Universal Epic Universe is still horrendous that it got picked, we’ve just gotten used to it. I don’t mind the non-full name. Even if there’s some risk of it becoming very dated… Universal’s Radical Universe. As is “Versant”. Barf.

UUKR- I'm going to pronounce it Uecker, as in Bob Uecker, famous cricketer. ;)
