Universal Orlando Resort has announced Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, a new outdoor roller coaster that will replace Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios Florida in 2027.

The coaster will feature 360-degree drifting maneuvers and a 170-foot vertical spike that sends riders nearly 17 stories into the air over Universal CityWalk. You'll experience high-speed thrills inspired by the Fast & Furious film franchise.

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will deliver several distinctive features:

  • 360-degree drifting sensation throughout the ride
  • 170-foot vertical spike element
  • Views over Universal CityWalk from the spike's peak
  • Outdoor coaster experience

The attraction replaces Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which has operated at Universal Studios Florida since 2009.

Timeline and Related Changes

Universal Studios Florida will open Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift in 2027. The existing Fast & Furious - Supercharged attraction will permanently close the same year.

Universal Studios Hollywood will debut its own version of Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift later in 2026. Each coast will have a different coaster design.

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit opened as Universal Studios Florida's first major coaster addition in years. The 17-story music-themed coaster allowed riders to select their own soundtrack during the ride.

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift marks Universal Orlando's continued expansion of its coaster lineup, which includes VelociCoaster at Islands of Adventure and Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.

Universal says it will share additional details about Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift in the coming months.

To get a high enough throughput for a coaster at USO or WDW you need some combo of -long trains -many block breaks -Short cycle time

Coasters have to have brakes to avoid collisions, I understand and agree. But if it's designed well the brakes don't have to be *used* every time a train passes over them. Like TOTBellhop was saying it kind of kills the mood. It's probably down to pushing throughput, if they released trains less frequently they could let them run without control. By controlling every trains entrance to every section they can move more per hour. Not my concern though, fun is is my goal as a passenger. I'd rather wait for something fun than have a ton of park capacity that isn't fun or less fun.

He is a troll who has been banned multiple times. Several of his sock puppets claimed Epic Universe was not being built. He’s trying to stir up nonsense, not have a good faith conversation.

You can't be serious... I have a season pass to my local sixflags/cedar fair park and have spent far more of my income on Disney/Disney World then I would like to admit.

Visitors who enjoy these inversion type coasters are unlikely to be the well vested visitor who is going to spend alot of money in a park. Source : innit bruv

Multiple launches (like Hagrid) is a more enjoyable experience allowing a ton of trains.

Why do you think most families don't go on fast paced coasters? I see lots of families in line for them.

MisterPenguin17 days ago

That's what it should *feel* like. But without brake sections, only one coaster can be on the tracks at a time severely cramping capacity. The ride should be made such that the brakes shouldn't be needed... just each dispatched coaster traveling at an expected velocity. OR... you purposefully brake at times for a thematic interlude.

Define 'relatively well' ? Most families will not go on a fast paced coaster, inversions, drops, etc So you appeal to a very tiny audience. The queues are clearly going to be long as the load capacity for a coaster is always low. Not saying there is no space for them, but the sheer volume of them lately ... it's just as bad as 'too many screen attractions'.

It is an interesting balance that they seem to do relatively well with. While the two best attractions in IoA are now coasters (IMO), the two best at Epic are not.

What do you base your research on? I've seen the attendance falls every year for the past 3 years at Island Of Adventures. I have my doubts that the thrill coaster Velocicoaster did anything to address anything at Island of Adventures.

Which is how so many regional theme parks came to focus on coasters. They also help wash over issues in the creative process because they can be quicker and cheaper.

It is 100% true though that there are a significant number of parkgoers that only care about roller coasters. They do bring in people who would otherwise not visit, for better or for worse. All of the Orlando parks are adding them because they are a guaranteed draw. Heck, apparently there's a struggle with getting people to realize that Curse of the Werewolf is not the star of Dark Universe.
