Space Mountain Earthrise: New Name and Details for Tokyo Disneyland's Rebuilt Coaster

Tokyo Disneyland has new details on its Tomorrowland transformation, and the names are in for both new attractions.

Oriental Land Co. released updated plans for the Tokyo Disneyland Tomorrowland renovation on August 13, 2026. The project carries a price tag of about 100 billion yen and adds two new attractions, plus new shops and restaurants, to the center of the land. Work moves toward a spring 2027 opening for part of the project.

Space Mountain Earthrise

Tomorrowland's signature ride gets a new name and a full rebuild: Space Mountain Earthrise. It keeps the indoor coaster format you've ridden since Tokyo Disneyland opened in 1983, but everything else changes. Expect new architecture, a new ride system, a new story, and light and sound effects built around space.

Ride vehicles get an onboard audio system, a first for a coaster at Tokyo Disney Resort. The exterior design uses curved shapes based on natural forms like trees and flowers.

The name comes from "earthrise," the view of Earth rising above the Moon's horizon. Oriental Land says this take on Space Mountain is unique among the Space Mountain attractions at other Disney parks.

Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue

The Wreck-It Ralph attraction now has a name: Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue. It opens in spring 2027 as an indoor ride that puts you inside the candy-themed racing game "Sugar Rush" from the film.

You team up with Ralph and Vanellope to fix the candy-themed setting after Sugar Bugs, created by King Candy, cause damage throughout. Oriental Land says the ride uses new interactive technology, and this is the first Disney park attraction built around Wreck-It Ralph anywhere Disney operates a park.

Two more spots open alongside the ride:

• Pixel Prism, a shop next to Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue selling merchandise tied to the attraction
• Popping Station, a popcorn stand near the ride, facing the new Tomorrowland Plaza

The Popping Pod popcorn wagon closed on November 1, 2024, to make room for Popping Station.

Tomorrowland Plaza and Element Express

The renovated area centers on Tomorrowland Plaza, a new gathering space built around fire, water, earth and wood, with lighting tied to the sun and moon. The plaza connects the older sections of Tomorrowland with the new attractions and lights up at night.

For food, Element Express opens as a counter-service spot in Tomorrowland Plaza for snacks and drinks.

When Tomorrowland Opens

Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue and the shops and dining around it target a spring 2027 opening. Space Mountain Earthrise and Tomorrowland Plaza are set for 2027, though Oriental Land hasn't given a specific date.
