Disney has today confirmed that the Disney Drop Shop will open on November 21 inside the Marketplace Co-Op at Disney Springs. The new store focuses on blind box merchandise and collectible brands, adding a format built for fans of unboxing and limited releases.

The shop will carry blind box drops, exclusive items, and products from Cosbi, Beast Kingdom, Popmart, and other collectible lines. Cosbi figures are known for small-scale character designs with stylized expressions, often released in themed series with rare variants. Beast Kingdom focuses on detailed, premium-style figures that include Disney characters in dynamic poses. Popmart is popular for its artist-driven vinyl figures, with rotating collections that feature surprise characters and limited editions. Disney says additional brands will also be part of the lineup.

The Drop Shop moves into the former home of The Vault, which will close after November 16. The D-Tech on Demand kiosk next door ends the same day.

A virtual waitlist will be used for entry when the store opens to help manage demand. Disney also notes that discounts will not apply, including on opening-day purchases.

People do unboxing at home all the time so not sure what the big difference is, other than being able to instantly buy another on property if you didn’t get the one you wanted. We’re losing d tech for this? And supposedly it’s closing in Tomorrowland too?

They WANT the social media narcissists to buy mystery boxes and stream themselves opening it! For Disney, the more social media narcissists, the better in this case! 😉 Disney figures, if you can’t beat them, get them to buy stuff. 😉

Having to go over to MK during the holiday crowds to get the final magnets was not on my to-do list 😪

no, no, no - this is a great idea - it's best to keep the vloggers as far away from regular people as possible. The Drop Shop aka the Vlogger Corral. Perfect. It's not in a popular store. It's far from the good restaurants at DS. This is a place that regular people maybe go on the last day of their vacation while waiting for Mear's to take them over to MCO for their flight home. I might even suggest Disney develop some other Vlogger-confinement locations at: Typhoon Lagoon, during the six months it's closed each year In the shell of Big River Grille (during the day only, when the outdoor areas are dead) And maybe something in the Carousel section of Saratoga Springs--far, far from the lobby and any pool Sprinkle these areas with a few discontinued Funko Pop figures (maybe even the super rare Paul Pressler figure--that would be fitting here), some strange new cupcake (perhaps combining the flavors of black licorice and bubble gum, with a design themed to Mars Needs Moms), and all the USB-C outlets any influencer could ask for.

At least normal gambling has some level of skill (or interesting characteristic) about it. Even a slot machine is more visually and mentally appealing than blind boxes. Then again, I like gambling (which is seemingly odd for someone under 40).

I be so much too dumb to put brain buzzes into mouth sounds but the people who create this sort of content, and perhaps even more so those who view it, should not be allowed to vote or so much proffer an opinion on any subject ever. Again, I be so much too dumb to put brain buzzes into mouth sounds, but the social impact these vapid and banal "influencers" have on our society will one day be dispensed in tome upon tome. If there is a higher being or any sort, this is their foreshadowing of doom we are walking straight toward.

oh my goodnesss....I really dislike this new part of our culture. So phony.

Content creators and influencers are basically unpaid Marketing staff, why wouldn't Disney embrace that.

KDM3109120 days ago

So this is displacing both the vault and the d tech area?

KDM3109120 days ago

These blind boxes print money because they are basically gambling disguised with cute little toys, pins, or whatever. Plus the sunk cost fallacy like you said.

KDM3109120 days ago

That’s my reaction too. This is so absurd. They should be discouraging this live-streaming and influencer crap, not encouraging it even further. So I guess now the co op will be unbearable to go in with obnoxious vloggers everywhere The blind boxes are just gambling anyway, just set up a slot machine disguised as vending machine with them and call it a day.
