Emporium Refurbishment - May 1, 2025
Posted: Thursday May 1, 2025 10:20am ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

The latest phase of the Main Street Emporium refurbishment is now complete, with the House of Magic and Hall of Champions sections back open to guests at Magic Kingdom.

This newly reopened area features a full redesign of the checkout space. The familiar back wall registers have been replaced with a new, updated design in the same location. The layout now includes embedded merchandise racks within the checkout queue, allowing guests to browse while waiting to pay.

In addition to the updated back wall, a brand-new set of registers has been installed along the side wall of the space—an expansion that increases overall checkout capacity and should help ease congestion during busy times.

New flooring has also been added throughout the area, matching the wood-colored tile used in other recently renovated sections of the Emporium.

Just an update to show they did add detailing to the area

In regards to the question "where is the merchandise" in the center room (and all my opinions about this refurb aside) I think there is still some flooring work left to complete. So likely holding back on adding shelving until that work is completed. Just my educated guess here based on the phased floor work in the other areas of the Emporium so far.

AFAIK, they were artificial flowers The flower market was a popular photo op in the days the park sold film and cameras. Another example of Disney being "Instagramable" long before that app ever existed. MK shops sold all sort of things that were not practical to carry around including antiques, silverware, swords, chess sets, crystal figures, jewelry and more. Package Pick Up next to City Hall is where you could pick things up later in the day. Many WDW stores continue to sell large or delicate things that are awkward to carry or stick in your bags before flying, but they add to the variety and quality of merch and make the stores interesting places to visit and spend more time (and money) in.

Same reason they sold antiques in the park. They were trying to shape an entire experience, not maximize sales per square foot like a poorly designed mall. They also offered services so you didn’t have to carry everything around.

If i’m not mistaken i think they were plastic

Honest question: why would you buy flowers in MK? Like, look how beautiful these are, let me purchase them and then hold them on Big Thunder? Seems odd...

Never forget what they took from us

Bring back Center Street and build arcades!

MisterPenguinJun 14, 2025

So, you think that over the years they won't start cramming in more and more islands of merch? Poor sweet innocent One, enjoy your wonder!! ;)

Merch? This is a tunnel for the hordes, not a shop!

AylaJun 14, 2025

Where's the merch?

The construction walls in the center section of the Emporium have been removed - photos from today: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54587434272_bd74994c79_k.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54588520698_1e4f819d41_k.jpg

It's funny to me how CC has more selection than the parks themselves in most areas, but it's just the merch nobody actually bought. Personally, I rarely buy anything other than pins anymore anyway, but it's not lost on me that the lack of selection is probably why. Only store with some level of selection is WOD, and even that is dramatically down from what it was when I was a kid!

I agree. I posted in other threads, I was at EPCOT and wanted a new hat. I had MONEY for the taking! There were only 4 hats to choose from, none I liked. I seem to remember MouseGear in the old days had A WALL OF HATS to choose from?? They lost a sale there. Same day I wanted to purchase pastries on the way out and stopped into the Odyssey, it was going to be about $40 worth, I just checked before if there was bags or boxes - NOPE! Disney lost more of my money!
