Disney has shared the first look at the newly redesigned Treehouse Villas at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, with the updated units set to debut over the coming months.

Walt Disney Imagineering revealed the new design in a video that gives an inside look at the creative and construction process behind the reimagined villas.

In the video, the Imagineering team explained that the design process drew inspiration from Disney's animation history — looking back across 100 years to consider which characters might feel at home in the treehouse setting.

The team walked through their full development process:

  • Virtual model room — digital designs are built out to visualize the full space before anything physical is constructed
  • Functional model room — the actual functionality of the space is tested, from layout to how guests will interact with the room
  • Contractor model room — the physical design is built out and used as the reference for all subsequent builds across the Treehouse Villas

That contractor model room is the final step before construction rolls out unit by unit across the property.

Disney confirmed earlier this year that the Treehouse Villas refurbishment would run in phases through mid-September 2026. The 60 standalone octagonal villas are being updated one cluster at a time, meaning some units will be available to guests while others are under construction.

The decor is just part of it. I believe this is a full refurb, so all appliances and furniture will be swapped out for new. Possibly new lighting etc.

The treehouses will never be as unique and fun as they were originally when part of the Disney Institute. My grown daughters still talk about how fun it was to sleep in the bunk beds in the tree trunk, and taking the spiral staircase in the tree trunk in the middle of the main level, down to that room.

Maybe more will come but nothing in the brief first look sells it to me. We've thought about a tree house stay and maybe one day it will happen. Adding some characters will give it more of a Disney feel. Wish they had named which characters will be considered being added.

The IP feels a little random but then again what is the theme of the treehouse other than you’re in a treehouse in the woods? I know they’re “part of Saratoga” but they’ve never been themed especially to fit that story. I’m assuming the mulan IP will be Crickee since a cricket … lives in the woods, so it clears the vibe check. Looks nice and updated while still having an identity. I give this one a B+.

Looks ok - I just found the two imagineers grating.

The video didn’t bother me. It’s pretty tame and informative 🤷‍♀️ It looks like a solid refresh with an inject of color and updated materials. I like the green. The characters aren’t a terrible idea, especially in service of making the treehouses feel more “Disney”, I just wish the selection was a little more purposeful than “we went back through our 100 years of content and found a bunch of random animals”. The treehouses are a great place to inject some subtle touches of the “forest-y” classics, like Bambi or The Fox and the Hound or Snow White (which, looking at the video, seems to be mostly what they stuck to, thank goodness). When you start pulling from newer movies like Tangled or Mulan, the mix feels off and lacks cohesion.

Looks fine to me. They didn’t change very much and added some characters.

More cringe worthy WDI social media slop that checks all the boxes.

Good lord. "We look at Disney movies to see what characters could fit..." You lost me right there. Looks like... every other "modern" remodel they do. Too much white. Too bright, especially for treehouses. Yes, we've stayed in one, in 2024. Their model room looks awful to my eye.

I’d love a refurb that gives modern magic. Snow White cottage, Bambi, and everything woodsy with whimsy. Somebody put me in charge! Lol
