Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a second Notice of Commencement (NoC) for the former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser building at Walt Disney World.
The new permit lists Balfour Beatty Construction as the contractor, with a scope of general construction. Balfour Beatty was also named in the first NoC filed for this project in August 2025.
The former Galactic Starcruiser building is being converted into offices for Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI), which is expanding its Central Florida footprint. WDI already operates offices at EPCOT and at the former STOLport site near Magic Kingdom.
The filing of a second major NoC suggests the project has progressed into a new phase of construction work. NoCs are typically filed when a new contractor or new scope of work is introduced to a project.
WDI has a heavy workload ahead with several large-scale projects underway or in development across Walt Disney World:
- Monsters, Inc. expansion at Disney's Hollywood Studios
- Cars-themed development at Magic Kingdom
- Disney Villains expansion at Magic Kingdom
- Tropical Americas expansion at Disney's Animal Kingdom
Additional office space in Central Florida gives Imagineering more capacity to support those projects without relying solely on its Glendale, California headquarters.
The former Galactic Starcruiser building closed in September 2023 after just over a year of operation. Then Disney Parks Chairman Josh D'Amaro later acknowledged the concept "didn't work commercially," despite receiving praise for its immersive storytelling approach.
No opening date or further details about the WDI office conversion have been announced by Disney.
