Disney's Pop Century Resort Lobby Undergoing Retro-Inspired Refresh

Disney’s Pop Century Resort has begun a lobby refurbishment project starting today, July 21, 2025. According to a new notice added to the resort’s official page, the update will give the lobby a “retro-inspired refresh.”

The lobby will remain open throughout the construction period, which is expected to continue into early October. Disney notes that all amenities will still be available during the work. However, guests may hear or see maintenance activity in the area while the refresh is underway.

This project follows a trend of recent upgrades to common areas across Disney Resort hotels, aimed at updating guest-facing spaces while keeping the resort’s theme and functionality intact.

Probably either didn't notice or didn't care... Like how I never learned they used to give tours of what was in the boxes!

Not sure how they missed it. Many of the items had become quite faded prior to the refresh. Many were just replaced like for like but there were some noticeable changes as well.

The shadow boxes were refreshed and updated with new props about mid way through the resorts existence.

Oh geesh. This is a major downgrade on the walls. Well actually I like the look behind the check in desks (improved from the old photos), but the opposite wall is such a downgrade from the original concept of the Resort. The flooring looks super dated still, too.

I can tell you from experience, the shadowboxes and pictures maybe got a dusting once a month. The interiors hadn't been touched since they were put up, as far as I know. This is only technically lower maintenance as someone doesn't have to run a rag around them once in a blue moon...

It'd maybe be less bad if they had depicted Fab5 AS they appeared thru major media thru the decades (but acknowledging that, comparatively speaking, they were used the least-often (regarding original material) in the 60's and 70's....but they could have pulled it off ...maybe style of?: 50's Mickey Mouse Club (this one Black & White to reflect most TVs at the time?) 60's Wonderful World of Color (that scratchy look of the early Xerox usage) 70's Mickey Mouse Disco (all of them had great threads if you look at the album cover...even Chip 'n Dale!) 80's Sport Goofy/Ducktales/1989 MMC 90's Goof Troop/Quack Pack/Mouseworks🤷‍♀️ Not Meet & Greet Character style of most of 20th century...almost always looked "off" in varying degrees to me lol...

I'm glad I stayed a few times before they did this. The photos and shadowboxes did a really great job of actually invoking a feeling of nostalgia. This doesn't.

Oh it doesn't start and end with gen zed, believe me. The managers I heard that kind of thing out of were quite a bit older than that!

Anytime I write a GSF/Keys Card for one of my Cast I make sure to include how what they did contributed to the Disney Difference. I wish more people focused on that. I don’t think we will ever fully recover from the loss of knowledge from the COVID lay offs. A lot of new gen Z managers that don’t know and don’t care about legacy…
