Disney has filed a new application with the South Florida Water Management District for parking lot modifications at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

The application, titled "GF Parking Modifications," proposes parking lot and driveway entrance changes that will connect into the World Drive North Phase 3 project currently underway nearby.

What the Plans Show

Plans show two distinct areas of construction activity on the Grand Floridian property.

The larger zone covers 3.40 acres and is described as the "Proposed Grand Floridian Parking Lot Expansions Limits of Construction." This area encompasses both the existing Grand Floridian DVC parking and Wedding Pavilion parking areas along Floridian Way.

A second, smaller zone of 0.20 acres is labeled as a "Proposed Connection Limits of Construction," located near the Island Tower DVC building to the north.

The plans show a reconfiguration of the existing parking areas to create more spaces, forming a continuous parking area between the Grand Floridian DVC building and the new Polynesian Island Tower.

A new connector is also shown, which appears to be a covered walkway linking the Grand Floridian DVC building to the parking loop in front of the Wedding Pavilion buildings.

The plans identify the following areas within the construction limits:

  • Grand Floridian DVC Parking
  • Wedding Pavilion Parking
  • Health Spa
  • Wedding Pavilion
  • Island Tower

Connection to World Drive North

The project summary filed with the district specifically notes the parking modifications will "connect into the World Drive North Phase 3 project." That project involves major roadway work along the western edge of the Walt Disney World property.

No timeline or completion date has been included in the filing.

The new connector looks more like a roadway connector between the loops, rather than a covered walkway as described in the article. It connects roads not sidewalks.

It’s already existing parking and roads anyway, this is just reorienting and connecting it into one continuous area And standard view rooms at any hotel usually look out over parking. That’s not a Disney specific issue

Quite the conundrum to solve with the increase in rooms, so the requirement for parking also increases and of the new rooms half will be parking lot views.
