Two Mystery Projects Coming to Disney's BoardWalk Resort at Walt Disney World

Two new entries in the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District public database point to something coming to Disney's BoardWalk Resort, though Disney hasn't said a word about either of them yet.

The projects are listed as "Project Amazon" and "Project Bubbles," and both are at locations that have been sitting empty for some time.

Project Amazon is listed at the former Big River Grille & Brewing Works, which closed at the end of January 2024. The space has been vacant ever since. Disney previously hinted at a new concept for the location, but nothing was ever announced.

Project Bubbles is listed at the former Promenade Fine Art Gallery, which closed in late October 2025.

Disney has made no announcement about either project.

Just steps from the Project Amazon site, Jellyrolls — the BoardWalk's long-running dueling piano bar — closed in April 2025 after nearly three decades at the resort. The space is currently being gutted. There's no word yet on what's planned for it, and it doesn't appear in the current filings under a project name.

That puts three vacant spaces in close proximity on the same stretch of the promenade.

Reading the Tea Leaves

Project names in CFTOD filings are often deliberately vague or misleading, so don't take them at face value. That said, they can offer clues.

"Project Bubbles" at a former retail space does invite some speculation:

  • A bath and body retail concept would be a natural fit for a location that was previously a shop
  • A champagne bar or lounge would also align with the name

As for Project Amazon, the former Big River Grille already has a full kitchen setup, which makes a food and beverage replacement the most logical outcome. What that looks like — a new restaurant, a bar, a lounge — remains unknown.

Disney's BoardWalk has seen a run of closures in recent years. Beyond Big River Grille, Jellyrolls, and the Promenade Fine Art Gallery. The west side of the promenade has felt noticeably thin on options as a result.

Two active permit filings, with names attached, and a third space already being gutted suggests something is in motion. We'll keep watching.

Disney Imagineering Signage Permit Adds to BoardWalk Mystery A new Walt Disney Imagineering Notice of Commencement has been filed at BoardWalk for signage installation, contractor Design Communications Ltd. The filing adds another data point to the ongoing BoardWalk mystery, though it's unclear if it connects to either "Project Amazon" or "Project Bubbles," the two unexplained CFTOD entries tied to vacant spaces at the resort. https://www.wdwmagic.com/resorts/Disneys-BoardWalk-Inn/news/04jun2026-disney-imagineering-signage-permit-adds-to-boardwalk-mystery.htm

I like it a lot, actually. I'm an international visitor, so I only get to enjoy it at Disney Springs.

Blaze isn't bad; it's just big chain pizza.

I like both Pizza Ponte and Blaze. Each has it's own approach to 'pizza'. It's good to have options.

TrainsOfDisney27 days ago

Yeah it’s my go-to for sure. I love staying over by Disney Springs so I have good food options. I’ll change a few things up but I ALWAYS order the Brussels sprouts!

Oh I agree but this is a great example of what happens when things aren’t balanced to meet demand. The window couldn’t handle the volume, it was designed to be one of many good options on the boardwalk, but then ESPN and the Boardwalk To Go kiosk never reopened and Big River closed, in room dining cancelled, forcing more people to the pizza window. Pizza window couldn’t handle it so they adjusted their menu and pricing to make it more sustainable for their operation. Hopefully whatever is being built balances things more and full pizzas return.

Polite Pig is definitely the QS king at Disney Springs (or anywhere on Disney property, really), but Pizza Ponte is pretty good. Or at least it was! I haven't been to Disney in years.

Yeah! Haunted Pirate mentioned that as well. I’m going to have to give them a try next time I’m in the mood for pizza vs. Polite Pig. I do like all the options for toppings at Blaze

Pizza Ponte is also at Disney Springs and it's much, much better pizza than Blaze. Blaze is relatively low quality, plus it's available all over the country. There's a Blaze like 5 minutes from where I live although I never go since there are much better pizza places around me.

Didn't mean they had to quadruple the price!

No need to go that far even! At Disneyland the corn dog truck is literally across the Main Street from Coke corner. In that one small area you have Jolly Holiday Bakery, Coke, Corn Dog truck, and Plaza Inn.
