Disney has shared new details on the BoardWalk refurbishment affecting Disney's BoardWalk Inn and Disney's BoardWalk Villas. The work runs now through late 2026, with a second phase confirmed for early 2027.

Village Green closes in August

The Village Green courtyard closes from August 10 through September 4, 2026. This is the area where Disney typically hosts Movie Under the Stars, yoga, crafts, and its outdoor Christmas tree.

During the closure, these activities move to other locations around the resort. Disney has not yet said exactly where.

Luna Park Pool area closes in 2027

From January 11 through April 2027, three more spots close for routine maintenance:

Luna Park Pool
Luna Park Crazy Play Area
Leaping Horse Libations

The Villas Pool and the Inn Pool stay open during this stretch, so guests still have a pool option on property.

You may see or hear construction during the day at various points in this BoardWalk refurbishment. Dining, recreation, and merchandise locations remain available throughout, according to Disney.

Oh I agree with almost everything here. I think the locations/areas on the boardwalk will be utilized, but not as a late night destination type setting, more as an extension of the Boardwalk property

From what I gather the guests actually paying to stay at that resort was making it clear they didn’t want to be Disney Springs “lite” and the current resort GM agrees. It’s also been a long time complaint that the resort lacks a proper QSR. On top of that Disney loves to leave things to rot that they aren’t interested in, but the former gallery, big river grill, and jelly rolls are all active construction sites. I predict a proper QSR and some sort of lounge with live music (like POFQ) coming to these spaces. The former gallery Is the wildcard… if I had to make a guess maybe a relocated DVC presentation center…

Leaving aside a too broad generalization statement about when WDW wants to be closed (and considering the shear number of after hours events, i don't think you can make such a broad sweeping statement) just looking at this specific area, why our of all the areas of WDW would they want to focus on the boardwalk being a location that is open later? Unlike Disney Springs, which is a commercial area, the boardwalk is a hotel area. A deluxe hotel resort area literally right below the windows of sleeping guests. Why would they want to have this area be one drawing in people later at night with guests paying the top rate for rooms trying to sleep right above them?

Another piece of this puzzle is WDW now wants to be “closed” at 11:00 or 11:30. Normal Park hours are usually 9-10 pm (compared to 11-12 at Disneyland) and Disney Springs now closes at 11:00 except for Friday and Saturday with an 11:30 closing. Back in the day - parts of Downtown Disney were regularly open till midnight with pleasure island closing at 1 or 2. So you could take a but back from Downtown Disney at like 2-3 AM. Which means hanging out at boardwalk or Port Orleans to midnight meant you could still take Disney transport back. Of course that was before the days of Uber and Lyft too.

In response to parking, I can remember when Boardwalk was in its younger years, there were brochures at Caribbean Beach (we stayed yearly) that were something along the lines of Shopping & Dining Along the Shore. We would drive over and Guest parking was in that lot to the right behind the old Hess. Which I believe is CM parking. You had to cross the street, and you entered the property by the convention hall.

Spoken like a man who (maybe) a) thinks it's a good idea at his age to have a lie-down after dinner; b) thinks going to the gym is a good way to spend their vacation evenings; c) hasn't understood that a promenade in the cooler hours of a hot summer evening is good for both the soul and the digestion; d) thinks 11pm is late to be out and about because urinary urgency will wake them in the early hours; or e) has to wake up in time to catch the very earliest morning news. (Offered in a spirit of teasing...)

Yes, but... they all have their own deluxe amenities. They don't have to go to Flying Fish for a top tier restaurant... each of those Crescent Lake resorts have their own top tier restaurants or two. And quick serves. And stores. And spas and gyms. And M&Gs, etc... They're not going to be especially drawn to BoardWalk en masse when they have their own in-house amenities. Sure, they'll check out the BoardWalk amenities, just like they'd check out dining at The Polynesian or AKL. BoardWalk's boardwalk, for as many times I pass through it on each visit, has a nice, comfortable number of guests wandering around, walking through, or partaking of their amenities. I've never seen it mobbed moreso than the indoor amenities of other deluxe resorts. It's a nice balance. I highly doubt Disney will upset that balance by going back to a wide advertisement of the BoardWalk boardwalk as a "destination you must see."

Who said anything about bringing guests in from anywhere other than the resorts already in that area? Guests from Swan, Dolphin, Swan Reserve, Boardwalk Inn, Boardwalk Villas, Yacht Club, Beach Club, Beach Club Villas are all within walking distance. That's potentially a lot of guests and in a busy week, many of them will be non-child accompanied convention-goers who don't want to be tucked into bed as soon as the fireworks finish. Also, have you ever heard of triple glazing? It's a very cost effective way of avoiding noise annoyance. (I know this because my parents' assisted living accommodation used it to both reduce traffic noise and noise from a nearby children's play area).

Oh I see! I definitely think the taffy idea is a no brainer just for the visual! I also wish they’d get another premium ice cream back. Seems like a second location for salt and straw would be easy but not sure how that works with the licensing and all. Best thing Iger did was bring in Ample Hills and Salt and Straw to Disney property!
