Disney's Lake Buena Vista Golf Course is set to close for an extensive renovation this summer, with work expected to run from late spring into early fall 2026.

The closure follows recent upgrades at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course and represents the most significant investment in Lake Buena Vista's playing conditions in recent times.

What's Changing

The renovation covers several areas of the course:

  • Greens - Fully renovated with new contouring and elevation changes
  • Green-side bunkers and chipping areas - Updated to improve playability
  • Irrigation systems - Upgraded around the greens to better maintain turf conditions in the surrounding chipping areas
  • Bunker drainage - New drainage systems installed across many bunkers to reduce water retention and speed up recovery after rain
  • Teeing grounds - Enhancements to several tee areas

If you have a tee time at Lake Buena Vista booked for the summer, check with Disney Golf directly to confirm availability. The course is anticipated to reopen in the early fall.

Disney's other courses -- Magnolia, Palm, and Oak Trail - remain open during the Lake Buena Vista closure.

Mr. Rosen wanted it, years before he died (was supposed to be effectively torn down and the spot built into something resembling what eventually became Shingle Creek)... That was the last time something concrete of a vaguely appropriate style was proposed, far as I know.

Im sure at some point a city high rise monstrosity will replace it, whether from Disney or an outside corp. This is all any of them know how to do anymore.

DoD has, from what I've been told, thinking of selling the place off for years. High profile R&R spot that's legendary, but it's not cheap to operate or maintain... And there's been friction with Disney since the day they acquired it. The whole thing was... frankly (even as someone who's had family who've worked with the military for years) a very odd choice from Disney in the first place. Should have kept it for themselves.

If Shades of Green is ever divested by the DoD (which it very well could be), I wouldn't hate to see it become the Golf Resort or something similar again...

Totally agree. It was messy and not the serene feel that you get on a course (in between the moments when the golf ball chooses its own path and trajectory). LBV is closed on 5/4/2026 which would have been my first day of vacation and when I was going to play. I have tried to not take it personally.

I think a lot of that was due to the world drive construction unfortunately

DH golfed at Kona Country Club about a month ago and said he doubts anything will ever beat it, with the exception of somewhere like Pebble Beach.

Anyone else long since sick of their overuse of “The Most Magical blah blah blah”? I would like to play a round at one of these courses. See how they stack up to Ko Olina. 😉

I love that Disney still has recreation in the form of golf. I still wish they would bring back Resort boat and bike rentals at all levels, morning yoga classes, and beach volleyball courts that are now missing. Heck even water sports on Bay Lake! Resort days could sometimes rival park days with all of the recreation!

I hope that they don't cut down a lot of trees. I played Magnolia last year and the new holes were rather "blah". I was disappointed in the overall condition of that course. I much preferred Palm. Might try to get LBV in before it closes, if possible. I saw "summer" but no official date.
