Disney's Latest Patent Drawings Reveal a New Kind of Theme Park Illusion

Disney Enterprises filed a patent in December 2024 for a 3D extendable projection surface that physically deploys into a scene, displays visual effects, then retracts completely out of sight. These patent drawings show how the system works, from the structural rings and actuators to the sensor unit and visual effect process. With Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land both under construction at Magic Kingdom, it's one of the more intriguing recent filings to come out of Disney's R&D pipeline.
