Frontier Developments, the studio behind Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo, is making a new game based on Disney's IP.
The Cambridge-based developer confirmed the news today, announcing an agreement with Disney to develop and publish a game that draws on Disney's portfolio of characters and properties. The announcement doesn't say what type of game this will be, but Frontier's background makes a Disney parks-building game a real possibility.
The studio says it will build on its experience in the Creative Management Simulation (CMS) genre, the category that includes Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo, and Jurassic World Evolution.
CEO Jo Cooke said:
"We are delighted to announce this collaboration with Disney, which further reinforces our clearly defined strategy of developing and nurturing world-class creative management simulation game franchises. Our mission with this game is to connect a passionate creative community of players with one of the world's most iconic and beloved brands, and I can't wait to see what our talented teams will create with this amazing opportunity."
Frontier didn't say what you'll be building in this game. But everything else it does say lines up with a parks-building game.
Frontier calls itself a leader in the CMS genre. Planet Coaster puts you in charge of building and running a theme park, ride by ride, path by path. That's the closest thing in Frontier's lineup to a natural fit for Disney's parks and attractions.
