Walt Disney World visitors should prepare for a rare cold outbreak January 31 through February 2, 2026. The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures in the mid-to-upper 20s Sunday morning, February 1, with wind chills dropping into the mid-teens across the Orlando area - the coldest conditions since 2010.

Sunday Morning: The Coldest in Over a Decade

Confidence is high that a major freeze will grip the Walt Disney World theme park area by Sunday morning (February 1 2026).

Sunday Morning Forecast:

  • Low temperatures: Mid-to-upper 20s across most of the Orlando area
  • Wind chills: Teens across the region
  • Hard freeze probability: 40-60% (temperatures at or below 27 degrees)
  • Daytime highs: Only reaching the 40s (50s near the coast)

Monday Morning Forecast:

  • Low temperatures: Similar to Sunday (mid-to-upper 20s)
  • Wind chills: Upper teens to low 20s
  • Continued well-below-normal temperatures

The extreme cold will persist through at least Tuesday before slowly warming.

Why This Weekend Will Be So Cold

A nor'easter will develop off the Southeast coast on Saturday, pulling Arctic air southward on strong northwest winds. This is the same weather pattern that produced the memorable 2010 freeze events in Florida.

Statistical forecast models have trended colder in recent runs, now showing temperatures that fall outside the 30-year climate averages for late January. The European model's extreme forecast index shows values below -0.9, indicating a very unusual or extreme event.

Dangerous Wind Chills for Florida Standards

The "feels like" temperature is the most critical factor this weekend. While air temperatures in the mid-20s are cold enough, gusty northwest winds will drive wind chills into the teens - with forecasts as low as 8F.

What You Must Pack for This Weekend

This is not a "bring a hoodie" situation. You need genuine winter gear:

Essential Items:

  • Heavy winter coat (the warmest you own)
  • Thermal underwear or base layers
  • Multiple warm layers: fleece, sweaters, down vest
  • Insulated gloves or mittens
  • Winter hat that covers your ears
  • Scarf or neck gaiter
  • Thick, warm socks
  • Closed-toe shoes or boots

Park Touring Advice

Avoid Early Morning Hours:

  • Rope drop at 8-9 am will coincide with the coldest temperatures
  • Wind chills in the teens make extended outdoor waits very uncomfortable
  • Consider arriving at parks after 10-11 am when temperatures rise slightly

Prioritize Indoor Experiences:

  • Start your day with indoor attractions and shows
  • Take frequent warming breaks in shops and restaurants
  • Indoor queue lines are favorable choices
  • Table service meals provide extended warm shelter

Lightning Lane Strategy:

  • Use it to minimize outdoor queue time
  • Focus on outdoor attractions with long waits
  • Indoor attractions can be experienced via standby

Before the Weekend: Cold Conditions Building

The freeze doesn't start Sunday. Cold conditions build through the week:

Tuesday Night - Wednesday Morning:

  • Freeze Warning for Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties
  • Temperatures: 31 degrees
  • Wind chills: 25 degrees

Wednesday Night - Thursday Morning:

  • Freeze Watch continues
  • Temperatures: 32 degrees

Friday:

  • Brief warmup to 65-70 degrees
  • Rain showers possible Friday night (30-50% chance)

Saturday:

  • Temperatures begin dropping
  • Winds increase Saturday afternoon
  • Gusty northwest winds develop

All Central Florida Parks Affected

This Arctic outbreak affects every theme park in the region:

  • Walt Disney World (all four parks)
  • Universal Orlando Resort
  • SeaWorld Orlando
  • LEGOLAND Florida
  • Busch Gardens Tampa (slightly warmer but still very cold)

For anyone keeping score... That's 55% of Epic's rides down for the first 2 hours of park opening (not including early admission), 44% for the first 4 hours, and 33% for the first 5 hours or so. Not even including early closures. An insane stat, really.

Now you can. However, back in the dark ages when that happened, there was No amazon or uber, lol. It would be a trip off site to a store near by If you had a car.

Just think; some poor person had to ride Kali River Rapids prior to opening today. And probably again later since it went down.

It seems like it was silly to even try. Highs not hitting 50 and feels-like temps in the 30s, there was no reason to even attempt to open those rides today.

You could probably find overnight delivery of Amazon purchases of any type of clothing. Or, Uber/Lyft to a local mall.

Dudley Do-right Ripsaw Falls and Popeye and Blutos were aiming for a 12pm opening and that never happened. They will remain closed today.

I really can’t believe you have icicles when we’ve had none out here in Vancouver this winter, at all. Cherry blossom outside my house for proof …

Tiana's Bayou Adventure has yet to open yet for the day. Kali River Rapids opened around 1:40pm.

I have asthma triggered by the cold weather. In spite on using an ECV, staying inside mostly, and wrapping my face with a scarf, I still had to pull out my portable nebulizer. Fortunately, I haven't had anyone accuse my of vaping, which was my fear.

I've noticed that. Stepping outside our room, the hallways are not warm. At least our actual room is.
