A heat advisory is back in effect for the Walt Disney World area today, August 12 2026, from 10am to 8pm.
The National Weather Service in Melbourne says a heat wave will keep heat index values near or above advisory criteria through at least Friday, with hot conditions continuing well into next week.
Today's heat index will reach 108 to 112 degrees. That's slightly higher than yesterday's advisory, and it covers a wider stretch of Florida, including Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Lake counties.
Advisory Details for Today
- When: 10am to 8pm, August 12
- Heat index: Up to 112 degrees
- Areas: Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake, and surrounding counties
- Impact: Heat illness risk for anyone spending extended time outdoors
Heat Wave
The Weather Service expects the same pattern to repeat Thursday through Saturday, with highs in the low to mid 90s and heat index values staying at or near advisory levels each afternoon. A new heat advisory is likely to be issued for parts of east central Florida through at least Friday.
Dry air moving in with a Saharan dust layer is limiting rain chances this week. Fewer afternoon storms usually mean the heat index stays higher for longer, since there's less rain to cool things down.
By the weekend, the heat risk actually increases. Forecasters expect a widespread moderate to major HeatRisk each day, with a real chance of extreme HeatRisk for Orange, Osceola, Lake, and Volusia counties, the area that includes Walt Disney World.
Looking further out, the heat wave shows no clear end date. Forecast models agree that hot, humid conditions will persist into early next week.
Planning Your Days at Walt Disney World This Week
If you have park days planned through the weekend, the advice from the Weather Service applies every day, not just when an advisory is posted:
- Drink water on a schedule, not just when you feel thirsty
- Take breaks in air conditioning every couple of hours
- Move strenuous activity, like long walks between parks, to morning or evening
- Watch for signs of heat exhaustion in kids and older family members
Consider building your afternoons around indoor shows, table-service meals, or a midday break back at your hotel, especially between 11am and 4pm when the heat index peaks.
