A Fire Weather Watch is in effect for the Walt Disney World area this Thursday, with temperatures expected to push into the low to mid 90s and gusty southwest winds increasing fire danger across Central Florida.
The National Weather Service office in Melbourne issued the watch for Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake, Volusia, and Brevard Counties — covering the entire Walt Disney World resort area. The watch runs from noon to 8pm Thursday.
Conditions Thursday will combine low humidity and breezy winds, creating elevated fire danger:
- Minimum relative humidity: 25–35%
- Southwest winds at 15 mph, gusting to 25 mph
- Rapid or uncontrolled fire growth possible
Today (Wednesday) and Thursday bring summer-like heat to the Orlando area. Highs will reach the low to mid 90s across the interior, with Thursday forecast to push temperatures area-wide into that range as the east coast sea breeze is expected to stall or fail to develop.
If you're heading to Walt Disney World this week, plan for intense heat — especially Thursday afternoon.
A weak cold front will slide into North Florida Friday morning and stall just north of the area through Saturday before lifting northward Sunday. That will push moisture back into the region, bringing a return of afternoon and evening showers and storms.
Rain chances by day:
- Friday: 20–40%, mainly north of Okeechobee and the Treasure Coast
- Saturday–Sunday: Isolated to scattered storms expand area-wide
The main storm threats each day include frequent lightning, wind gusts up to 40–45 mph, and locally heavy rain. The added humidity will push heat index values into the mid to upper 90s Friday and Saturday, potentially reaching 100°F on Sunday.
A cold front is expected to move through the area Monday, pushing rain chances up to 40–50%. Highs remain in the low 90s Monday before temperatures drop closer to normal values Tuesday as the front clears.
Tips if you're visiting Walt Disney World this week
- Wednesday–Thursday: Expect intense dry heat. Rope drop early, take a midday break
- Thursday: Peak fire weather conditions. No outdoor burning in the region
- Friday–Sunday: Afternoon storms likely — carry a poncho and watch for lightning delays on outdoor attractions
- Sunday: Heat index could hit 100°F — factor that into your touring plans
