The National Weather Service (NWS) in Melbourne has issued a Red Flag Warning for Thursday, March 6, from 11 am to 6 pm. This replaces the earlier Fire Weather Watch and signals immediate fire risk due to dry conditions and strong winds. The alert covers much of Central Florida, including Orange and Osceola counties, where Walt Disney World is located.

Critical Fire Conditions

  • Winds: West to northwest at 15-20 mph, gusting up to 30 mph
  • Humidity: Dropping to 25-35%, increasing fire spread potential
  • Extreme Fire Risk: Fires could ignite easily and spread rapidly

Potential Impacts at Walt Disney World

  • Increased fire patrols in and around the resort
  • Smoke possible if fires develop in the region
  • Restrictions on outdoor burning, including at Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

Safety Tips for Visitors

  • No open flames or outdoor cooking in dry, grassy areas
  • Be cautious with cigarettes—dispose of them properly
  • Stay updated with weather alerts in case of escalating fire conditions

We’ve been under a statewide burn ban here in SC for the last several days. Wildfires have broken out in most of the coastal counties, with the largest in the Myrtle Beach area. Scary stuff.

No Joke. Even though it looks like some rain just passed through, the higher than normal winds coupled with low humidity and dry undergrowth can make a small fire very big very fast. The most likely impact could be to fireworks, but I would think that it would be the high winds that would nix them before the risk of fire.
