The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Thursday, March 6, 2025, from morning through evening. This alert applies to much of Central Florida, including Orange and Osceola counties, where Walt Disney World Resort is located.

Weather Conditions and Fire Risk

  • Strong Winds: West to northwest winds at 15-20 mph, with gusts reaching 25-30 mph.
  • Low Humidity: Levels dropping to 25-35%, creating dry conditions that increase the risk of wildfires.
  • Fire Spread Risk: Any fires that start could spread rapidly due to the combination of dry air, wind, and fuel sources.

Possible Impacts to Walt Disney World

While the Fire Weather Watch does not necessarily mean a fire will occur, visitors should take precautions, particularly in outdoor areas of the resort:

  • No Outdoor Burning: Campfires and grilling at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground should be avoided.
  • Smoky Haze Possible: If any wildfires ignite in the region, smoke could impact visibility and air quality around the parks.
  • Increased Fire Patrols: Disney’s fire teams and local emergency services will likely be on heightened alert.

Safety Tips

  • Avoid smoking in wooded or grassy areas and dispose of cigarette butts properly.
  • Stay aware of local alerts in case conditions escalate to a Red Flag Warning, which indicates imminent fire danger.
  • Follow Disney’s guidance if any areas are impacted by weather-related concerns.

At this time, no specific closures or operational changes have been announced at Walt Disney World, but guests should remain aware of evolving conditions. Fire Weather Watches are often upgraded to Red Flag Warnings, so stay tuned for updates.

We’ve been under a statewide burn ban here in SC for the last several days. Wildfires have broken out in most of the coastal counties, with the largest in the Myrtle Beach area. Scary stuff.

No Joke. Even though it looks like some rain just passed through, the higher than normal winds coupled with low humidity and dry undergrowth can make a small fire very big very fast. The most likely impact could be to fireworks, but I would think that it would be the high winds that would nix them before the risk of fire.
