A Tornado Watch and a Wind Advisory are both in effect for the Walt Disney World area today, May 2, covering Orange and Osceola counties through 6 pm EDT.
Tornado Watch
The National Weather Service issued Tornado Watch 183 at 11:27 am, effective until 6 pm EDT this evening. Orange and Osceola counties, which include Walt Disney World, are included in the watch area.
A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop. It does not mean a tornado has been spotted.
Potential hazards under the watch include:
- Gusty winds of 50–70 mph
- Large hail
- Locally heavy rain leading to flooding
- Deadly lightning
Severe storms are most likely between 3 pm and 11 pm, with the primary threat being damaging wind gusts.
Wind Advisory
A Wind Advisory also runs from 10 am to 6 pm EDT today. Expect southwest to west winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts near 35 mph.
Park Operations
Walt Disney World has not made any announcements about park closures or attraction suspensions. However, outdoor attractions and experiences, particularly those sensitive to lightning high winds, could face temporary closures.
Conditions are expected to improve on Sunday, with cooler temperatures in the mid to upper 70s and decreasing storm chances.
