Ron DeSantis says a new bill with the Florida legislature will revoke Disney's agreements with Reedy Creek

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis held a "law and order" news conference today and took the opportunity to comment on his ongoing legal battle with Disney.

In response to a question from reporters, the governor said that Disney is acting "like they have the ability to veto...it is basically putting their thumb in the eye of the voters."

DeSantis said the Florida legislature will soon pass a bill revoking Disney's final February 8 developer agreement and restrictive covenants with Reedy Creek, which he will sign into effect. According to DeSantis, it is Florida law that the legislature or the governing body can revoke developer agreements.

It isn't clear how a DeSantis-backed bill will impact Disney's latest legal move, or how it fits in with legal efforts by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District to enforce its position to nullify Disney's agreements with Reedy Creek.

The DeSantis-appointed board of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District said earlier today that they will countersue Disney in an attempt to "uphold and enforce the board's April 26, 2023 legislative findings relating to the February 8, 2023 development agreement and declaration of restrictive covenants."

The Walt Disney Company filed a lawsuit in a Florida Federal Court last week, naming Florida Governor and the entire Central Florida Tourism Oversight District board.

Disney claims in its lawsuit filed in a federal court yesterday that there has been "A targeted campaign of government retaliation-orchestrated at every step by Governor DeSantis as punishment for Disney's protected speech-now threatens Disney's business operations, jeopardizes its economic future in the region, and violates its constitutional rights."

In the lawsuit, Disney is asking for the court to declare that the February 8 contracts remain in effect and enforceable.

Was curious about this: Is there an expectation that CFTOD will delegate some responsibilities to the cities as part of the understanding between the state and Disney?

They objected the delay?

Federal Judge officially granted a 60 day delay on the Federal Case. Disney requested so a new developement agreement could be negotiated, the CFTOD did not object.

Same formality as completing the new agreement. They clearly think everyone will work in good faith and get an acceptable resolution. One where not having representation in the CFTOD board is ok.

Sounds like walking away from the Federal case is only a matter of formality at this point... or the roof caving in. Those aren't the words of someone cautiously optimistic for an outcome... those are the words of someone who already knows the game plan and they aren't holdiing a gun to anyone.
