You can now create your very own personalized MagicBand in the Magic Kingdom with MagicBand on Demand.

Inside the Tomorrowland Power and Light Co. at the exit of Space Mountain, a new D-Tech station allows guests to create a custom phone case or MagicBand, with immediate printing using instant drying UK ink.

There is a choice of 8 basic bands, including the much requested purple. You can then choose from around 40 graphics to be added to the MagicBand, along with a name.

A custom retail MagicBand is $21.95 while a personalized retail MagicBand is $29.95.

The lithium coin cell is good for at least 3 years. It is not fully on all the time. It is a call and respond type of device.

My original MB from April-2014 was still fully Functional this past month after our 4th trip in 18 months

Yes. The battery only powers long range stuff, which at this point is only the automatic photos. Anything that requires you to touch the scanner will still work.

TyrantBossOct 26, 2015

So you are saying that the magic bands still work for park access, fast pass, etc. and the battery dying makes no difference?

HolleBolleGijsOct 26, 2015

Most of the functionality will still work. The battery really only makes a difference if you *need* to have ride photos automatically added to MDE. But seeing as every attraction but 7DMT has scanners underneath the photo displays, it's really easy to get those photos anyway. Even though I had a new band, I scanned it for every ride photo, because I wanted some sort of confirmation that the photo was in MDE.

Why waste your money on a magic band when the battery is only good for one year?

Went to the custom Band place today. Not many choices. Haunted Mansion and Small World were only attractions. Other than that you could pick one of the Princesses or Fab 5. Oh and Hocus Pocus.

Is it wrong I wanna get the pink small world one and wear it on our trip just cuz I can?

That's correct. Purple is a fairly hard color to replicate reliably. From what I heard and saw they had issues with color consistency, marbling (I would have LOVED to had that), plastic being too stretchy due to the amount of dye they had to use, along with the color reacting badly with pool chemicals. A nice bright purple was one of the colors used in all the original promo images and ads. (Those bands were also all one color not edged with dark grey.)

Agreed. And I definitely instinctually read your words in Dana Carveys George Bush impression voice.

When you put it that way, I demand garnet for FSU!

G00fyDadOct 25, 2015

There goes another $30 of my money. :D I really hope they still have this next year.

imkrazy182Oct 25, 2015

From what I remember, there was an issue with the dye used for purple. It was either bleeding/fading or causing skin problems. They had wanted it from the beginning.

I love Disney marketing - they play with us so much. Look at how folk are talking about purple, like it's rare & elusive. Disney could have created purple at the same time they made orange, yellow, green... but chose to leave it out. Why? Anyone's guess. However they now they realize by not having offered it at the start, they have created a demand for it, and folk who feel the need for purple will pay up for it. Clemson fans have their orange... LSU has yellow... but purple? go custom order a band. ... and all those kids, and adults who love the color? Cha-ching. I'd love to have a purple band, but won't pay for it. If I were them, I wouldn't offer it for free at all. LOL.
