Disney is retiring the Play Disney Parks app on Sept. 16 2026. The app currently powers several interactive experiences at Walt Disney World, and once it's gone, you'll lose access to your login and saved progress.

Here's what the Play Disney Parks app currently supports:

  • Star Wars: Datapad
  • Batuu Bounty Hunters
  • DuckTales World Showcase Adventure
  • Attraction queue games
  • Parks trivia
  • Digital achievements

What Happens to Each Experience

Batuu Bounty Hunters will stay open after the app retires. It'll keep running through MagicBand+ and the screens already set up around the land. Only the app portion shuts down on Sept. 16 — the rest of the experience continues as normal.

Star Wars: Datapad will retire along with the app. There's no word yet on a replacement.

DuckTales World Showcase Adventure at EPCOT has been down for refurbishment over the last few weeks, and Disney says there is no information to share at this time on its future.

A Brief History of the App

Disney announced Play Disney Parks in April 2018 as a way to fill queue wait times with interactive games. The app launched on June 28, 2018, alongside the opening of Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios. At launch, it included in-queue games at Toy Story Mania!, Peter Pan's Flight, Space Mountain, and Slinky Dog Dash, plus trivia and digital achievements.

The app expanded through 2018 and 2019, adding activities at Disney's Art of Animation Resort and Disney's Animal Kingdom, along with sponsored games near Splash Mountain and Epcot's Kidcot locations. Disney also let guests convert certain achievements into physical collectible pins for a limited time.

The app's biggest feature arrived with Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in August 2019. The Star Wars: Datapad turned your phone into an in-world device, letting you hack door panels, scan cargo crates, translate the in-universe language, and interact with screens and props throughout the land. When Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opened in December 2019, Disney added two more Datapad experiences tied to the attraction's storyline.

Updates slowed after 2020 as Disney shifted its digital focus toward Genie and Lightning Lane with My Disney Experience.

Darn. That sucks. I hope the ducktales game sticks around.
Seems they should be able to add the SWGE games and Ducktales to the MDE app, no?
A shame for the folks that liked those interactive experiences but I am all for decisions to keep ppl off their phone in the parks.

Not that this will make a measurable impact on that issue but still
Making the steins the Germany shop was a treat.
I don't remember if I ever went through there and took screenshots of the Dinoland questions; they're probably still there, I should look before it shuts down.
So now Galaxy's Edge will have almost NO functionality, Ducktales is gonna be MIA, and stuff like the Soarin Trivia and lighting up Tink in the Pan queue are in jeopardy. Great job, Disney. I sure hope you lock away it all behind MagicBand+ or a Disney+ subscription. That would be so awesome.
Willing to bet the popular stuff is just rolled into the normal app.
Whatever will I do in the Soarin queue?

Stand at a kiosk and spend 20 minutes trying to orient your passport in the way it wants so you can print bag tags?
Bring back the Kimmunicators
Maybe they are finally realizing that its better for guests NOT to be absorbed in their phones while visiting the parks.

Good luck with that. LOL.

Maybe they’re developing games with in-app purchases.

The app going away doesn’t mean these functionalities will. It would make sense to just add them to MDE, no? It wouldn’t be hard and it’d save guests from needing a second app and save them a need to run one.
My preference would be that they forbid cell phones in the parks and implement signal jamming to prevent their use, but I suspect I'm not going to get my wish...

I know that you’re mostly joking, but people have talked for a long time now about reduction of cell phone usage in the parks being need and while I don’t completely disagree, they can only scale that back so far. There are certain things that are done on the phone today that don’t have to be, but they can’t get rid of virtual pay options and stuff like that at this point. I don’t think they should get rid of things like mobile ordering either.
