D23 Fantastic Worlds Celebration goes virtual and includes a panel on the future of EPCOT

Nov 09, 2020 in "D23 - Official Fan Organization"

D23, the official Disney fan club, has announced the line-up for its 2020 D23 Fantastic Worlds Celebration.

Taking place November 16 - 20, the celebration will include virtual events, articles and merchandise releases.

For park fans, perhaps the most interesting event takes place at YouTube.com/DisneyD23 on November 19 at 6m ET - "EPCOT - The Magic of Possibility."

According to D23,  "Learn about the Magic of Possibility at EPCOT and how this park is transforming today and building toward the future. You’ll hear about the making of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and what it takes to bring this animated favorite to life in the France pavilion."

You can find out more about the event at the official D23 website.

I have to say, the D23 retrospectives are always excellent, but the four parks panels were particularly painful (assuming that you classify the Mickey and Minnie Birthday as, essentially, an extended Runaway Railway clip to promote McDonalds, where the toys are actually more interesting to me than hearing about that dang Steamboat Willie Whistle yet again). I think it’s telling that, even with the hosts delivering clearly vetted and scripted questions, most of the panelists had to essentially say “Oh, details? New experiences? Things that are unique/coming/you may not know about? Here, let me redirect the question and talk about how great our team is.” Having been at some stilted D23 Panels and having seen many of the filmed panels from the past few months, I’ve always found at least some small amount of fun and at least the briefest amount of candidness that makes the panel totally worthwhile - perhaps it’s the electricity of the fans in the room that has changed. It’s really a shame that it feels like the panelists seemed to be scared of answering questions about their work, or that the answer to “Is there anything new you can share” is in effect “No.”, or “I don’t know what’s been cut yet, I can’t speak to that”, or “There’s nothing new, this ride is a clone”.

Most likely, they’ll just plan an in-park press event like they did for Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary.

When is the next event where they could make any announcements? Josh said 50th details would be coming at a later date. I doubt that would simply be a Disney Blog post.

Agree. I had very low expectations, but this was worse than I thought.

The thing I've been waiting for was a color transition package for SSE for the longest time..Glad we could see different style sets..

Could be something with Patton Oswalt or something?

MisterPenguinNov 20, 2020

I was only off by a zero... so, nothing really!

I know it's huge but... 60 stories might be slightly overstating it.

I mean, nothing in the age of corona is certain, but from what has been said on here, by Disney, and just general construction progress, all the projects they failed to mention are not getting cut.

I feel like everyone on these panels has been over the top syrupy. It’s like Chapek beat them with a sugar filled churro and said “I didn’t fire you yet, you better smile and act happy!!!”

Surferboy567Nov 20, 2020

Just finished the panel...yea it’s about what I expected. Glad I kept those expectations low.

Surferboy567Nov 20, 2020

Wait...they aren’t fully making it English? EDIT: I guess it doesn’t really matter since most of the script is in English...but why wouldn’t they go the extra mile.
